W: Oh, thanks so much for inviting me. I’m happy to take part! When is it
M: It’s this Saturday afternoon. We were thinking of setting aside 20 minutes for your talk, but we can make adjustments if you need more time. We’re finalizing the schedule now.

8. What does the man want to do
A. Improve his social skills. B. Do electrical repairs. C. Handle office tasks.

A. She’s encouraging the man.
B. She was a restaurant manager.
C. She’s dissatisfied with her work.
(Text 7)
W: Hi, David. How’s your work going
M: It’s OK, but they don’t let me do much of the interesting work. I want to be an electrician, but I’m not allowed to do any repairs. They make me do a lot of paperwork instead.
W: They’ll probably let you do more interesting work once they know you’re reliable. When I worked at the restaurant, I started by just washing dishes and cleaning tables. Only after a few weeks — when they saw I was responsible — did they let me take orders and talk to customers. You’re clearly keen to learn, so I’m sure they’ll trust you with more hands-on tasks soon.
M: I guess you’re right.

W: Yes. I see the trip is from the 6th to the 16th of September.
M: Right. Have you booked the bus
W: Yes, I called them yesterday. They’ll pick us up at the school at 9:00 on the 6th, so we should arrive at Hawthorn Park at around 12:45. Just in time for lunch.
M: Great. Now, let’s look at the rooms. There’ll be the two of us, and 16 girls altogether. So we’ll need two single rooms for the teachers, and I think we should put the girls in four-bed rooms. That will work out the cheapest.
W: That’s good. Now I just have to remember to ask them what sports facilities they have.
M: Yes, and we’d better book these facilities in advance.
W: Good idea.

(Text 9)
M: Jenny, you recently went on a flying experience day. What made you decide to do this
W: A friend of mine tried it a while ago. She told me she had noticed her house while she was up there. That made me want to spot my house too and enjoy a different view of the local countryside. It wasn’t like I wanted to fly a plane professionally or anything.
M: How did you feel at the beginning of the day
W: When I saw the airplane we’d be using, I couldn’t believe that something that small could actually take off with two people in it. But everything was so well organized that I quickly forgot my doubts.
M: And how was your flying instructor
W: I thought Jana was serious until we took off. In the air, she never stopped making me laugh by saying funny things — she said it would help me relax.
M: So has this made you want to try other fun things
W: Definitely. I’ve never done wingsuit flying, so that’s something I’d love to try one day. First on my list, though, is base jumping, and after that comes rock climbing.

(Text 10)
OK, everyone, please take a seat. As you all know, we’re one of the biggest neighborhood branches of Books Unlimited, which means we play an important role in the company. Now, the figures are in from the head office, and it’s time to look at our performance over the past year. Let’s begin with this slide, which shows our store’s total sales. Fairly impressive, I would say. Despite the poor economy, overall sales have remained from last year. On the next slide, you can see the amount of foot traffic we had. And it’s actually more than last year. A lot of that came from the book-signing days we organized with local authors! So, overall, I want to thank you for a job well done. And to show my appreciation, I’ve organized some celebratory snacks and drinks, which are waiting for us up on the second floor. Can we do better Yes, we can! And as your manager, I will make sure you get the training you need to become the best-performing branch team in the city. Alright, enough talk — let’s head upstairs.
