A letter to my friend
Dear Rebecca,
Thanks for your letter. It is great to hear from you! I couldn’t be more excited to have a pen friend from the other side of the world!
You asked me to tell you about my favorite day of the week. Well, it’s definitely Friday! You may wonder why I like Fridays so much. My first reason is that I have my favorite subjects on Friday. I have Physics in the morning and P.E. in the afternoon. I think Physics is a very interesting subject. Our Physics teacher Mr. Fan brings us to the science lab to do experiments every week. Mr. Fan is also very kind and humorous. I never get bored in his class. In P.E., I usually play basketball. This is my favorite sport and I’m good at it. There are many excellent players in my class, so we usually win at school basketball competitions. I also have a Computer class on Friday. I am now learning to create a webpage for my class basketball team.
Another reason why I like Fridays the best is that I can relax on Friday evenings as there’s no school (or extra classes) on Saturdays. I often go to the movies with my best friend Liangwei on Friday evenings. Sometimes, I go to his house and have dinner with his family. On Saturdays, I usually go to the City Library. I have decided to read at least one book every two weeks. Currently, I am reading Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. The novel is about a man who was alone for a long time on a deserted island. I like this adventure story very much.

But snow is different. Though it is cold, it is also beautiful. Perhaps, after several dark mornings, the student wakes up one day, and there is a lot of light in his room. I know there are many interesting and useful jobs but I would like to be a teacher. I began to think about my future job at the age of fourteen. I was born into a family of teachers.
When I was a little girl, I often went to school with my mother. When my mother was in the class I watched her, and I wanted to be popular among (在……当中) pupils like her.
One day in the 9th grade, the head teacher asked me to give an English lesson to the 5th grade pupils because their English teacher caught a cold. When I entered the classroom, many pupils had been at their desks. I said, “Good morning, ” and began the lesson.
I wanted the pupils to like English. We read, wrote, sang songs, asked questions and answered questions. I was happy teaching the pupils.
Now I know what I am going to do after leaving school. I want to be an English teacher. It’s a very interesting but difficult job. It’s interesting because I can work with pupils. It’s difficult because I have to teach them a foreign language.
To be a good teacher means to know a lot. Every day I improve my English by reading books reading English newspapers, looking through magazines and speaking with English people. I like English and I want to be a good teacher.

Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school. On turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let's go and see!”
“No” said Henry. “Let us go home quietly and not meddle with (管闲事) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together and I don't want them to worry about us.”
“You are a coward (懦夫), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.
But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down on Henry and didn't want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Robert for his rude behaviour, because he knew that they misunderstood him. Thus, he just ignored the other boys' laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn't invite Henry to go home together with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled and cried for help, but he failed. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did nothing to help him.
Paragraph 1:
It seemed as if Robert would be dying.

Paragraph 2:
Thus, Robert's life was saved.
