2. Teaching Procedures
Step 1: Lead-in (5 minutes)
1. Greeting & Warm-up
T: Good morning, class! How are you today Let‘s start with a quick review. I’ll show you flashcards of animals we learned before, and you say their names.
(Show flashcards of cat, dog, bird, etc.)
2. Topic Introduction
T: Great job! Today, we‘ll explore more amazing animals. We’ll be talking about this question: Why do you like animals Let‘s get started!
Step 2: Work on 1a (7 minutes)
1. Present New Vocabulary
T: Look at the pictures on the screen. Let‘s learn these new animal names together.
(Show pictures of lion, penguin, tiger, eagle, wolf, monkey, fox, giraffe, and teach their pronunciation.)
2. Individual Task
T: Now, open your books to Page 1. Write the animal names in the boxes next to the correct pictures. You have 2 minutes.
3. Check Answers
T: Let‘s check the answers together. For example, what is Picture A
(Invite students to share answers and correct pronunciation as needed.)
Step 3: Work on 1b (8 minutes)
1. Predict & Discuss
T: Next, we‘ll listen to a short conversation. Before we listen, let’s predict. Discuss these three questions with your partner:
1. Where are the students
2. What do they learn about
3. When should they be back
2. Listening Practice
T: Now, listen to the audio and find out if your predictions are correct.
(Play the audio once.)
3. Check & Share
T: Let‘s check. Where are the students ... (Guide students to confirm answers: at the zoo, about animals, before 12 o’clock.)
Step 4: Work on 1c (7 minutes)
1. Predict Statements
T: Look at the four statements in 1c. Read them carefully and first predict whether each one is True (T) or False (F).
2. Listen & Circle
T: Now, listen to the conversation again. This time, circle T or F for each statement.
(Play the audio a second time.)
3. Feedback & Correct
T: Let‘s go over the answers. For statement 1: ... Who got it right Let’s listen to that part again to confirm.
Step 5: Work on 1d (8 minutes)
1. Model the Conversation
T: Let‘s practice the target dialogue. I’ll be Student A, and you be Student B.
T: What‘s your favourite animal
S: It’s the monkey.
T: Why do you like monkeys
S: Because they‘re clever and funny.
2. Pair Work
T: Now, work in pairs. Make your own conversations using the example. Talk about your favourite animals and why you like them. You have 3 minutes.
3. Class Performance
T: Which pair would like to share your conversation with the class
(Invite 2-3 pairs to perform and give positive feedback.)
Step 6: Pronunciation (5 minutes)
1. Introduce Target Sound
T: Let‘s focus on pronunciation. Listen to the vowel sound / /. Repeat: / / (e.g., map, cat, bag). Notice the mouth shape.
2. Group Practice
T: Now, I‘ll divide you into 4 groups. Each group will focus on one sound: /e /, / /, /ɑ /, / /. Brainstorm and list more words for your assigned sound. For example, for /e /, you can add: name, wait, day.
3. Listen & Repeat
T: Let‘s listen to the audio and repeat the words and sentences. Pay attention to the target sounds and stress.
Step 7: Summary & Homework (5 minutes)
1. Summary
T: Today, we learned 8 new animal names, how to talk about our favourite animals, and practiced the / / sound. Remember, animals are our friends, and we should protect them.
2. Homework
· Write a short paragraph (5-7 sentences) about your favourite animal. Include why you like it and one interesting fact.
· Practice pronouncing the target sounds and words.
· Complete the “随堂作业” (in-class exercise) on Page 3.
