Dear teachers and classmates,
It’s my great honor to be here and share the story of my growth with you. During my growth, many changes have happened to me. The most important one is that I’ve become more confident.
I used to be afraid of speaking in public. Once, I was asked to give an English presentation in class by my English teacher. I was so nervous that I almost refused. But she encouraged me, saying I could do it. I spent days preparing, practicing again and again—even my pronunciation was corrected by her when she had free time. When I stood in front of the class, I took a deep breath and began. To my surprise, I finished smoothly.
This experience made me realize I can overcome my fears. Now I’m willing to take part in various activities. I feel proud of this change, as it helps me grow better.
Thank you for your listening!

It’s not easy growing up. Growing up can be a real “pain” for some of us. We are always doing things that someone else makes us do and aren’t allowed to do all the things we like. Sometimes we feel sad, sometimes we are fearful, and sometimes we just don’t understand why we can’t stay young forever. But we should take a look back on all the painful things in life with a positive attitude (积极的态度) and we should learn from them. We should realize that all of our growing pains actually turn into growing gains !
Throughout our lives we are going to face many challenges and pains, but we should never let these difficulties keep us from following our dreams. We must overcome them one small step at a time.
As a young girl, my parents asked me to do so many things that I didn’t like. They made me learn to play the violin and then the piano. At that time I hated music and I also hated them. But looking back now, I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music has enriched my life in so many ways. I now comprehend that my parents and teachers wanted me to have a better life.
We are all going to experience growing pains, but they are just part of our life. Think about how we would feel if we had no challenges and lived a life like that. Life would be really boring and meaningless. The future is ours! A little hard work and sweat (汗水) never hurt anyone! If we realize that these pains are just small bumps (碰撞) on our road to success, we will realize that our growing pains are actually growing gains!
1.What should we do when we look back on the painful things in life?____
A.Feel sorry for them. B.Be afraid of them.
C.Learn from them.
2.How does the writer feel now about what her parents did for her in the past?____
A.Surprised. B.Unhappy. C.Thankful.
3.What does the underlined word “comprehend” probably mean?____
A.Collect.
B.Remind.
C.Understand.
4.Which can be the best title for the text?____
A.Growing Up Is a Real Pain
B.Growing Pains Are Growing Gains
C.Growing Pains Are Challenges(共33张PPT)

This has been my dream since I was little!(P28)
1 He has lived in Beijing since he graduated from college.
2 We have not seen each other since last year.
3 She has been interested in painting since childhood.
since:接“过去时间点”(如 since 2020, since he came)
for:接“时间段”(如 for 3 years, for a month)
例1 He has studied English since 2020.

1 She practices playing the piano every day.
2 It takes a lot of practice to become a good dancer.

How time flies!(P29)

He failed the math test.

5 It’s+adj. +to do sth. 句型
It’s great to look back and see my pains and gains with fresh eyes. (P29)
“It” 作形式主语,真正的主语是后面的不定式“to look back and see my pains and gains with fresh eyes”,该句型用于表达“做某事是……的”。
例1 It’s important to learn English well.
2 It’s necessary to exercise every day.
【拓展】It is+形容词+to do sth.

Sally is a teenage girl who wants to be a dancer. But her parents want her to be a doctor. She wants to obey (服从) her parents’ wish, but she also wants to follow her dream.
Being a teenager is hard. You feel old enough to make your own decision, but your parents always think that they know what’s best for you.
So, how can Sally fix her problem
First, teenagers can try to look at things from their parents’ point of view. Parents often have long term plans for their kids. When our parents control what we do, they’re only trying to guide us. Our parents have been through much more things than we have. So, it is reasonable to trust them. After all, they control us because they love us.
But let’s also look at things through a teenager’s eyes. Many teens feel like they can take on more responsibilities. Instead of just accepting our parents’ choices or arguing with them, we should try sharing our feelings with our parents. Sharing feelings with our parents can help make positive changes, while not sharing them can bring misunderstandings.
So, if you feel that your parents’ decision is unfair, you should sit down together and talk about it. By sharing your feelings and coming up with a proper argument, you may be able to change their minds. Their trust in you will also grow. As you get older, you’ll be able to make your own decisions.
1.What does the underlined word “reasonable” mean in Paragraph 4?____
A.Wise.
B.Easy.

2.Which of the following will the writer probably agree with?____
A.Parents’ decision is unfair.

B.By giving some examples.

As you grow older, you’ll be faced with some challenging decisions—like whether to cut class or try cigarettes (香烟).Making decisions on your own is hard enough, but when other people take part in and try to pressure you one way or another, it can be even harder. People who are at your age, like your classmates, are called peers. When they try to influence how you act, to get you to do something, it’s called peer pressure.
Peers can have a positive (正面的) influence on each other. Maybe another student in your science class taught you an easy way to remember the planets in the solar system. Maybe you got others excited about your new favorite book, and now everyone’s reading it. These are examples of how peers positively influence each other.
Sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in school might try to get you to cut class with them. Your soccer friend might try to convince (使信服) you to be mean to another player and never pass him the ball.
It is tough to be the only one who says “no” to peer pressure, but you can do it. Paying attention to your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do.
You’ve probably had a parent or teacher advising you to “choose your friends wisely”.Peer pressure is a big reason why they say this. If you choose friends who don’t cut class, smoke cigarettes, or lie to their parents, then you probably won’t do these things either, even if other kids do.
If you continue to face peer pressure and you’re finding it difficult to deal with, talk to someone you trust. Don’t feel guilty (内疚) if you’ve made a mistake or two.

“Sunrise gold” is a color that means a lot to me. The color mixes gold with a bit of red and yellow. I like it because it gives me peace, energy and hope in the face of difficulty.
When I was in the seventh grade, I took part in a speech competition. Although I made all my efforts (努力), I didn’t win. The failure hit me hard and made me feel painful. I had trouble falling asleep that night. It was 3:30 in the morning, and there was nothing but me and my unhappy heart. I got up and went upstairs to the roof (屋顶) top.
I stayed there until a ray of light appeared in the sky. At first, it was orange and red, but after a short while, the sun awoke (唤醒) from its sleep and painted the sky with its gold colour. The sunlight shone on everything—trees, roofs and streets. I felt its warmth flow (流动) through my body and into my heart. The rays of light woke up the gentle (温和的) morning wind and sent it moving across the field, touching my face and everything gently. It also woke up the early birds, which were singing happily.
There and then I realized that past is history, no matter how much we regret (遗憾) it. I thought to myself, “Maybe I can start once more, just like the dawn (黎明).” I went downstairs, feeling energetic (有活力) and hopeful.
Now, whenever I face difficulties, I remember what the “sunrise gold” made me understand that morning.
