Dear Wang Mei,
It isn’t snowing today, but there is still snow on the grass. In Edmonton, the
spring weather is a little wild. It can be cold and snowy or warm and sunny.
The temperature can be as low as -15°C, but it can also reach 15°C. We
probably won’t see any flowers until May or June!
After school today, we had so much fun playing outside. We played “snow”
soccer, but we had to wear jackets, jeans, and boots to stay warm. When
it gets warmer, we can play in our shorts and T-shirts. I like spring because
there are lots of activities to do, like cycling, having picnics, and hiking.
I like the Chinese name for winter jasmine. It’s interesting. Here, we have
Groundhog Day on February 2 for the coming of spring. Do you know what
happens on that day
Another fun part of spring is going to the sugar bush, a big tree farm in the
countryside. We make maple syrup. We eat lots of tasty breakfast foods —
all with maple syrup on them! I love spring activities.

Language points
1. The temperature can be as low as -15°C, but it can also reach 15°C.
as...as意为“和……一样”，表示同级的比较。使用时要注意第一个as为副词，第二个as为连词。其基本结构为：as+ adj./ adv. +as。
e.g. (1) This film is as interesting as that one.
这部电影和那部电影一样有趣。
(2) Your pen writes as smoothly as mine.
你的钢笔书写起来和我的一样流畅。
low 的一词多义：
(1) adj. 低的；矮的；(数量、程度等) 低的，用来描述物体的高度、数值的大小或状态的程度。
(2) adv. 低；低声地，常用来修饰动词，说明动作的幅度或声音的强度。
反义词：high adj. 高的 adv. 高
e.g. The mountain is high, but the valley is low. 山很高，但山谷很低。
The wall is so low that I can climb over it. 这堵墙太矮了，我能爬过去。
The temperature is low today. You’d better wear a coat.
今天气温低，你最好穿件外套。
She spoke low, so I couldn’t hear her clearly.
她说话声音低，所以我没听清。
2. We probably won’t see any flowers until May or June!
probably[ pr b bli] adv. 很可能；大概
副词，表推测语气比maybe更肯定
e.g. It will probably rain tomorrow.
明天很可能下雨。
until“直到”，表示某一种行为一直持续到某一时间。用在肯定句中，句子的谓语动词必须是可延续性的。
e.g. (1) I studied English until 9 o’clock last night.
我昨晚学英语一直学到9点钟。 (表示9点前一直在学)
(2) I waited for five hours until it was dark. I had to give it up.
not...until“直到……才”表示直到某一时间，某一行为才发生，之前该行为并没有发生。用在否定句中，主句中的谓语可以是延续性的也可以是短暂性动词。
e.g. I did not study English until 9 o’clock last night.
我咋晚直到9点钟才学英语。(表示9点才开始学)
3. I like spring because there are lots of activities to do, like cycling, having picnics, and hiking.
长难句分析：这是一个复合句。I like spring 是主句，because there are lots of activities to do 是由because 引导的原因状语从句。从句there are lots of activities to do 是there be 句型，to do 作后置定语修饰activities；like cycling, having picnics, and hiking 是用于举例说明春天可进行的具体活动。
like是介词，意为 “例如”后接名词 / 动名词
e.g. I like sports like running and swimming.
我喜欢运动，比如跑步和游泳。
hike 的一词多义：
(1) v. 远足；徒步旅行
(2) v. 把(价格等) 大幅提高
(3) n. 远足；徒步旅行。go for a hike去徒步
(4) v. (价格、费用等) 猛涨
e.g. They hiked for a few hours before setting up camp.
他们在搭建帐篷之前徒步走了几个小时。
The price of vegetables has hiked recently.
最近蔬菜价格猛涨。
Let’s go for a hike tomorrow if the weather is good.
如果天气好，我们明天去徒步吧。
