Yanhu Village: from boats to banks
Over the past 20 years, Yanhu Village, once a small fishing village along Shaobo Lake in northern Yangzhou, has experienced amazing changes.
Decades (10年) ago, most families in the village used to live on small fishing boats. Then in 2007, with the government's support, rows of new, modern houses were built along the banks. Now, each family in the village has moved from boats to banks. They have planted all kinds of trees and flowers, adding natural beauty to the whole village. The whole village looks very beautiful, clean and tidy.
In the past, the only way to reach nearby towns was on foot or by boat. Since 2017, the 31-kilometre-long Yanhu Avenue has been in use. The road now runs past the village, and most families own cars. Villagers and tourists can move in and out of the village comfortably.
Back then, life here was all about fishing-no real "village culture" to speak of, and few fishermen's kids ever made it to college. Today, though, the village can proudly show"fishing culture" to tourists. Moreover, many young people have returned after college graduation (毕业), bringing fresh ideas with them. They are developing fish-themed (捕鱼为主题)projects: lakeside guest houses, camping spots, and interesting and relaxing activities that draw visitors in (使参与).
Thanks to the government's support and villagers' hard work,Yanhu Village has opened a new chapter. Just as (正如) a villager, once a fisherman, said, "From living on boats to enjoying a happy, modern life, I take pride in (因...骄傲) living in such a great era (时代,纪元) and my hope for the future shines more brightly than ever."

Assessment
China has seen many changes, especially after the reform and opening up. Many forms of art show these changing times. For example, the novel River of Time follows the lives of three men from the late 1970s to the late 1990s. You can learn a lot about what has happened in China during that time from the novel. Find a film, book, painting or song that reflects the changing times, and then introduce it to your classmates.
