Unit 3 Keep Fit
Section 5 Project
Content analysis
This section consists of a student-centered project activity, with the core focus on comparing the exercise habits of different individuals. The activity is carried out in the following steps: First, students are divided into groups of 4 to 5 members. Within each group, students interview one another about their favorite sports or exercise methods, and fill the collected information into a table. The survey revolves around three key questions: 1. What sport or exercise do you do most often 2. Why do you like it 3. How often do you do it
Subsequently, group members collaborate to complete a short project report for their group and present it to the rest of the class. Students from other groups are required to record valid information during the presentations. Finally, by comparing the reports of all groups, the most popular sport or exercise method among the whole class is identified, and the reasons for its popularity are summarized.
By participating in the project-based activity “Compare Exercise Habits”, students can understand the most popular sports among teenagers and the reasons for their popularity, and group surveys on teenagers’ sports frequency trigger students to reflect on their own exercise habits and time management ability; meanwhile, in real scenarios, students can flexibly use the unit-learned sentence patterns (such as “How often do you ...”) to ask about and respond to exercise-related information, and group activities also provide opportunities for peer communication, helping students connect with classmates who share similar sports interests.
This project-based learning activity consists of four key steps: group members interview one another to collect information, which is then recorded in a table; the group summarizes and organizes the information into a report; each group delivers presentations, conducts communications and makes cross-group comparisons; finally, the group engages in reflections and formulates relevant plans. Conducted entirely in groups, this activity effectively exercises students’ ability to actively communicate and share ideas using the target language.

Procedures
Teaching Activities Learning Activities Purposes
STEP 1 Lead-in T: Hello, boys and girls! Our school’s sports week is coming up next week, and we need to select a student to give a speech at the opening ceremony. To make the speech more meaningful and representative, let’s first conduct a survey to find out the most popular sport among our classmates, and then write a report based on the survey results. STEP 2 Group work Make a survey T: Ask your group members about their favorite sport or exercise and take notes in the table. You may ask these questions: Q1: What sport or exercise do you do most often Q2: Why do you like it Q3: How often do you do it STEP 3 Report writing T: Now, each group will write a brief report based on your survey results. Have every group member practice presenting it, then select one student to deliver your group’s report to the class. STEP 4 Present and compare T: OK, let’s welcome one representative from each group to give their report. Meanwhile, the rest of you need to take notes about the most popular sports and the main reasons mentioned. T: After all the presentations, we’ll find out the most popular sport in our class, and use this result to prepare the opening speech for our school sports week together. STEP 5 Homework Polish your opening speech and email it to 123456@. Later, we’ll notify candidates to have an interview in the school hall. Try your best for this chance and good luck! Listen carefully to the teacher’s introduction, then think about the coming task. Work in groups to ask each other these questions about sport or exercise and take notes in the table. Work together to finish the report and present it to the class. Listen to each group’s report carefully, take notes of the popular sports and main reasons, then work together to confirm the class’s most popular sport and prepare the sports week opening speech. To create a real situation and help students understand the follow-up project task clearly. To let students practice target sentences and collect first-hand information through a survey. To consolidate survey results and practice writing and presenting a report in groups. To practice listening and note-taking, and confirm the class’s favourite sport for the opening speech preparation. To encourage students to get the chance to give a speech in front of all the students with the knowledge they have learned in this unit.
