Nowadays, smartphones flood us with text messages. Many consumers are buying the latest digital devices, from tablets and fitness trackers to commercial drones. Simple living seems to be a thing of the past.Thoreau would beg to differ. As a writer who advocated the value of simplicity almost two centuries ago, he was a contrarian (叛逆者) for his time. He lived during the height of the Industrial Age, distinguished by the rise of large factories, expanding urban developments, and powerful machines.Turned off by the constant busyness of this time, Thoreau withdrew from city life to live alone in the woods. He brought with him only the necessities of life and wrote about this adventure in his book Walden. In the book, Thoreau is basically making a philosophical statement. We are not living meaningful lives due to modern technology. We created powerful machines to make life more convenient. Unfortunately, these machines have done the opposite. In his words, “men have become the tools of their tools”.That is to say, we are not the ones controlling technology. Technology is controlling us. Every few minutes, smartphones may distract us with messages. At least half of Americans check their phones several times an hour. Meanwhile, information overload from social media can weaken our concentration and heighten confusion. When technology causes that much distraction and confusion, it may be healthy to simplify life by reducing technology overuse. Personally, I’ve done so in two ways. First, I use very little data on my phone and keep the apps on it to a minimum. Most time, I only use my phone to call or text. Second, I quit most social media. Sure, those two things aren’t as extreme as Thoreau withdrawing into the woods. Nevertheless, they’re realistic moves I can make toward living a more meaningful life.24. Which statement would Thoreau probably agree with A. Technology holds back our ambition. B. Technology is key to a meaningful life.C. Simplicity is outdated in modern times. D. Simplicity is possible in a tech-driven world.25. Why did Thoreau move to live in the woods by Walden Pond A. To escape from his family responsibilities.B. To conduct scientific research on nature.C. To avoid the busy and materialistic industrial culture.D. To write a best-selling memoir about simple living.26. Why are smartphones and social media mentioned in Paragraph 4 A. To discuss the effect of modernization.B. To illustrate men’s heavy reliance on tools.C. To highlight the extensive use of technology.D. To show the convenience of technological tools.27. What is the main purpose of the passage A. To argue that Thoreau’s ideas of simple living are still relevant today.B. To introduce Thoreau’s masterpiece Walden to readers.C. To criticize the negative impact of the industrial age on society.D. To share the author’s personal experience of simple living.COn December 18, 2025, Hainan started its full-island closure for customs supervision, a key step in building the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP). It’s not about sealing the island, but a high-level opening-up measure based on the policy of “opening up at the first line, controlling at the second line, and free flow within the island”.Under “opening up at the first line”, overseas goods, capital and personnel can enter Hainan more freely with simpler customs clearance procedures. “Controlling at the second line” focuses on precise supervision to keep a balance between opening-up and mainland market security. A big advantage is the expanded zero-tariff commodity list: tax items have grown from 1,900 to about 6,600, covering production materials and consumer goods. Besides, products with over 30% processing value-added sold to the mainland are tariff-exempt, which helps cut enterprise costs greatly.Economically, the policy will draw high-end industries and foreign investment, raising Hainan’s position in the global value chain. Institutionally, Hainan will follow international trade rules in some fields, providing useful experience for China’s institutional opening-up. Regionally, it will work with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and ASEAN, becoming a gateway to the Pacific and Indian Oceans. For local residents, they can enjoy cheaper zero-tariff goods, better duty-free shopping experiences and more high-end jobs.Officials say that this move is a landmark of China’s high-level opening-up. It pushes the Hainan FTP into a substantive stage and shows China’s determination to expand opening-up.28. What is the main purpose of Hainan’s full-island closure for customs supervision A. To seal the island completely B. To build a high-level free trade portC. To control the flow of personnel strictly D. To limit the flow of capital from overseas29. Which is an advantage brought by the policy A. Tax items have decreased to 1,900.B. Products sold to the mainland are all tariff-free.C. Enterprise costs are reduced because of zero tariff .D. Customs clearance procedures for mainland goods become simpler.30. The underlined word “tariff-exempt” in Paragraph 2 probably means ______.A. having no extra time to wait. B. being processed in a simple way.C. being allowed to flow freely. D. not needing to pay tariff.31. What is the main idea of the passage A The specific measures of Hainan’s full-island closureB. The significance and impacts of Hainan’s full-island closureC. The challenges Hainan faces after full-island closureD. The history of Hainan Free Trade Port’s constructionDMost people believe their beliefs and opinions are logical and impartial based on years of experience and objective analysis of the information available. In reality, we are all subject to confirmation bias — the tendency to interpret new information as confirmation of our existing beliefs while subconsciously ignoring evidence that proves them wrong. The brain does this to protect our self-worth, making us feel confident and in control. But if left unexamined, confirmation bias can often negatively affect our decision-making process.A big part of my coaching practice is helping clients question their current belief systems, even though it feels terrible in the moment, so they can benefit from changed beliefs in the long run. Many clients have never examined their beliefs, and they don’t even know the repetitive thoughts driving their confirmation bias. They just think that’s the way they are. I help them see that what they’ve been thinking true their whole lives is not necessarily true and they don’t have to keep believing that if it is not serving them in life. The problem with confirmation bias is that facts don’t change our beliefs. Even where there is plentiful evidence to prove our belief wrong, our brain will dismiss it as an exception. We are unwilling to change our beliefs because often that requires changing our identity, which we naturally resist. The only way to change a belief is a conscious decision to do so. However, reinterpreting reality is tiring. Our underlying current of thought has become habitual in a way that takes very little energy from us. Changing our beliefs requires a lot of energy and discomfort. If you want to change, you need to understand your confirmation bias and put effort into changing your default (默认) thinking. Your new focused thinking will take more work. You will initially resist it. But eventually, your intentional thought will become your new belief system. And then your confirmation bias will work to your advantage as your brain will be looking for evidence to confirm beliefs that are helping you improve your life, as opposed to holding you back.32. What is a feature of confirmation bias according to paragraph 1 A. It promotes logical thinking. B. It contributes to objective judgment.C. It weighs new evidence heavily. D. It processes information selectively.33. What can be learned about many of the author’s clients A. They are unaware of their mental habits. B. They are unwilling to admit mistakes.C. They rarely have repetitive thoughts. D. They refuse to examine their beliefs.34. What can we infer from the passage about people’s resistance to changing beliefs A. It mainly comes from the fear of losing self-confidence.B. It is closely related to people’s sense of identity.C. It can be easily overcome with the help of a coach.D. It results from the lack of sufficient evidence against beliefs.35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage A. Confirmation Bias: Its Impact and Overcoming StrategiesB. How to Change Your Belief System EffectivelyC. The Role of Coaching in Correcting Confirmation BiasD. Why Facts Fail to Change Our Beliefs第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Anger and forgiveness are often seen as rivals. Forgiveness is cast as the hero, while anger is cast as the villain (反派). ____36____Anger isn’t a villain. We live in an anger-phobic society, where people are afraid of your anger as well as their own. We often hear phrases such as “Calm down,” “There’s no reason to get angry,” and “You’re overreacting,” — all of which imply that there is something terribly wrong with anger. In this environment, it has become an emotion people feel ashamed of. This is why it makes the perfect villain. Yet, anger is not a villain; it’s simply an emotion. ____37_______38___. You might have heard that forgiveness will always be beneficial and will never cause you harm. But such all-or-nothing messages are misleading. Forgiveness doesn’t always produce positive results. Forgiving your offenders can harm you by blocking your need to feel, express, and process your anger, and promoting shame. Is forgiveness a villain No. Forgiving can be extremely beneficial, just not for everyone or in every circumstance. Many people equate anger with being unforgiving. They say that if you are angry with your offender, you have not forgiven them, and if you do not feel angry at them, then you have forgiven them. ___39___ Getting rid of anger will not cause forgiveness, and forgiveness is not automatically achieved when you stop being angry. Therefore, feeling angry is not the opposite of forgiving and vice versa. This debate has no winner because forgiveness and anger are not at odds; it’s only our misunderstanding of them that has created their false rivalry. It would be better for us to acknowledge that they both have value, that neither is perfect, and that we do not need to choose one over the other. ____40____A. And forgiveness isn’t a hero.B. This is an oversimplification.C. We can value them both equally.D. It is not good or bad or right or wrong.E. Instead, anger and happiness are opposites.F. However, this opposition makes little sense.G. Some people use forgiveness under the cover of moral virtue.第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分)第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。As my two children were growing up, we didn’t have the resources to travel the world. It’s been too long, and I’ve gone this far, I convinced myself. There was no turning back.As I walked toward the restaurant, I remembered the good times we had. We shared interests, stayed up all night talking and laughing, and were always there for each other. That changed after our big disagreement. There wasn’t a day I didn’t think of her. I often thought of reaching out. But I also thought, if she cared, why hadn’t she contacted me We were both stubborn.A month ago, it was her birthday. I found her on social media — still the same bright smile and curly hair. Photos showed she liked to travel and had grandchildren. I sent her a message, saying how much I missed her and asking if she’d like to meet. When I didn’t hear back, I thought she didn’t feel the same. But then she replied! She said she missed me too.
