Mexico’s vast culture, great food, and sunny beaches make it a favorite destination among Americans. And while its convenient location just south of the border makes it easy for many to visit, it’s still out of reach for many people. Hoping to offer her class at Trinity Leadership Public School in Cedar Hill, Texas, a taste of travel, a first- grade teacher named Sonja White prepared a detailed pretend trip to Mexico without leaving the school.
In a social media video White shared the creative efforts she made to make this pretend voyage an unforgettable experience for her students. The “trip” was part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, but it also served as a simulation (模拟) of how traveling works in real life. She made play passports and tickets for each student, “boarded” them onto the “plane”, which was a cleverly placed group of chairs inside her classroom with a projected plane window view, handed out snacks “mid-flight”, as well as set up a gift shop with souvenirs from Mexico.
“I started traveling with my own kids when they were really young. It builds culture, and I feel like they have to go to different places and see how different people live to really understand life. I want them to have a desire to travel,” White told The Washington Post.
The pretend trip was also inspired by the fact that many of White’s students had never traveled outside Texas. The teacher also engaged the parents leading up to the trip, asking them to help prepare a suitcase with clothes and other essentials. One particular mom, Nathalie Vazquez, played a key role in the adventure. She is from Mexico and showed up with a feast for the 19 students.
The effort caught the eye of Southwest Airlines, which White selected as the carrier of the pretend flight. Moved by their curiosity, the airline rewarded the class with a visit to their company and a chance to explore an actual Boeing 737 Max 8 plane.
Beyond this trip, White has been really interested in giving her students lessons about the real world, leading her to turn her classroom into places like a coffee shop and a farmers market.
24. Why did Sonja White design the pretend trip to Mexico
A. To explore Mexico’s attractions. B. To help students experience travel.
C. To enhance students’ social skills. D. To facilitate the development of tourism.
25. What does paragraph 3 mainly focus on
A. White’s insight about travel. B. The trip’s detailed schedule.
C. White’s travel experiences. D. Students’ travel background.
26. How did Southwest Airlines respond to the pretend trip
A. It shared travel tips with students. B. It offered free flight tickets.
C. It rewarded the class with a special tour. D. It donated Mexican souvenirs.
27. What message does the text mainly convey
A. Countries need greater exchanges. B. Creative methods enrich teaching.
C. Traveling abroad inspires curiosity. D. Parental involvement improves learning.

When it comes to designing robots that can navigate rough terrains (地形) with ease, nature often provides the best inspiration. One such source of inspiration is the tumbleweed (风滚草), a plant that has evolved to roll effortlessly across vast land. Researchers and engineers are now looking to learn from the rolling motion of tumbleweeds to create robots that can go across challenging environments with flexibility and efficiency.
Tumbleweeds are known for their unique ability to roll across the landscape, driven by the wind. This rolling motion is not only efficient but also allows the tumbleweed to cover long distances while conserving energy. This rolling motion, with a lightweight and round shape, minimizes air resistance and maximizes stability.
Inspired by the efficiency of tumbleweed moving, engineers have begun developing robots that integrate similar principles into their design. These robots combine the best features of wheeled and legged robots, which allows them to adapt to a variety of terrains.
One key benefit of these tumbleweed-inspired robots is their ability to navigate rough and unpredictable terrains with ease. They can overcome obstacles (障碍物) that would be challenging for traditional wheeled or legged robots. With multiple functions, these robots can be used in a wide range of environments, from deserts to rocky landscapes to snowy terrain. Furthermore, their efficiency means that they can cover large distances without expending much energy. This makes them ideal for tasks such as search and rescue missions, environmental monitoring, and exploration of remote areas.
While the robots show great promise, there are still challenges to overcome in their development. One key challenge is ensuring the durability and reliability of these robots in hard conditions, where they may be exposed to extreme temperatures, rough terrain, and other environmental risks.
Researchers are also exploring ways to enhance the autonomy and intelligence of these robots, allowing them to make real-time decisions and adapt to changing conditions. By integrating advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, and machine learning algorithms (算法), these robots can become even more effective in navigating challenging terrains.
28. What motivates the creation of the new robots
A. The progress in geography study. B. The reform of traditional robots.
C. The demand for exploring rare plants. D. The moving mode of tumbleweed.
29. What advantage do the new robots have
A. Easy to operate. B. Low energy consumption.
C. Faster than traditional ones. D. Advanced smart sensors.
30. What is the researchers’ current concern about the new robots
A. Reducing their weight and size. B. Improving their predictive ability.
C Increasing their market share. D. Boosting their intelligent level.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of the new robots
A. Optimistic. B. Doubtful. C. Critical. D. Uncertain.

Buying and selling unwanted clothes on secondhand markets is widely seen as a sustainable way to reduce the consumption of new clothes and reduce the environmental damage caused by the fashion industry, one of the world’s most carbon- intensive sectors. But a recent study coauthored by Yale University’s Meital Peleg Mizrachi shows that people who frequently purchase clothes secondhand also tend to buy a lot of new clothing, negating (抵消) resale’s environmental benefits and enabling continued overconsumption.
The study is based on a nationally representative survey of 1,009 individuals. The analysis revealed a positive correlation between spending in the secondhand and primary clothing markets, particularly among younger consumers and frequent shoppers, suggesting that secondhand purchasing supplements (补充) primary market consumption rather than replacing it.
“Our study provides strong evidence that secondhand clothing markets contribute to overconsumption,” said Peleg Mizrachi. “The sustainable clothing community has placed a lot of faith in the secondhand markets as a sustainable solution to overconsumption. Unfortunately, our findings suggest that rather than solving the problem, secondary markets may unintentionally actuate unsustainable purchasing patterns.”
In the study, more than 69% of people surveyed reported having purchased secondhand clothes at least once. About 59% of respondents reported high consumption levels in both new and secondhand clothes. Members of this group frequently returned items they had purchased, kept clothes for short periods, and had increased their purchasing of secondhand clothing since 2020. “People who buy a lot of secondhand clothes also tend to get rid of clothes more quickly, abandoning them when they’re still in good condition or even brand new,” Peleg Mizrachi said. “They appear to be driven by a desire for novelty and follow new fashion trends. Ultimately, those most engaged in the secondhand market are generating more waste than other consumers.”
The researchers say the new findings support the importance of policies that would help keep resale practices consistent with sustainability goals. “We should start treating the secondhand chain as part of the primary fashion system. We could start with requirements for publicly reporting resale platform’s environmental impact,” Peleg Mizrachi said.
32. What can be inferred about secondhand clothing markets from paragraph 1
A. They directly lead to increased waste. B. They are crucial for the fashion industry.
C. Their environmental benefits are overestimated. D. They greatly reduce the demand for new clothing.
33. What does the underlined word “actuate” probably mean in paragraph 3
A. Ease. B. Examine. C. Illustrate. D. Encourage.
34. What does the last paragraph stress most
A. The fashion industry is not sustainable. B. Policies are essential for sustainable resale.
C. Resale platforms must upgrade their systems. D. Consumers should buy less secondhand clothing.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Can Fashion Go Truly Green B. Will Policies Fix Clothing Waste
C. Second Thoughts on Secondhand D. Interest in Low- consumption Lifestyle

___38___ Leaving blank spaces between main points allows you to add details or connections when reviewing. This also makes your notes easier to read and navigate. Additionally, using different colors for headings, key terms, and examples can help you distinguish important information at a glance (扫一眼).
Look over your notes within 24 hours of writing them. Checking your notes regularly helps you remember what you learned quickly. This step helps move information from short-term to long-term memory. You can also add notes by writing down questions, connecting related topics, or fixing mistakes. ___39___

On Friday evening, I couldn’t hold back my news. “My teacher wants us to make a collage (拼贴画) from old cloth for a class project,” I announced at dinner. “It’s due next Monday.” Mom didn’t look up from her plate. “We’ll see,” she said quietly. My heart sank. “What does ‘we’ll see’ mean ” I thought. “If I don’t finish this project, I’ll fail the assignment.” I pushed my food around my plate, my excitement gone. Later, I approached Dad carefully. “We need to find some old fabric…” I said. He was reading the newspaper. “Hmm” was all he said, not even looking at me. A heavy feeling settled in my chest. “Maybe my schoolwork isn’t important to them,” I worried.
Throughout Saturday, I waited, hoping to hear the sound of scissors or the rustle of cloth. But nothing happened. Did they forget I wondered, my stomach tight with worry.
By Sunday afternoon, I was fighting back tears. The deadline felt like a dark cloud over me. In our home, asking twice often led to trouble. I watched my parents move around the house, wishing one of them would say something — anything — about my project. But they were busy with their own tasks. I felt invisible and quite alone. The hope I had felt on Friday was now completely gone.
Just before dinner, Dad walked into my room. “Come with me,” he said, his voice gentle. I followed him to the living room, confused. Then I stopped, surprised. On the big table lay pieces of colorful cloth. I saw the blue pattern from my old baby blanket, a soft red piece from Mom’s favorite worn- out shirt, and even some rough brown fabric from Grandpa’s gardening apron (围裙), each tied to our past memory.
“I’ve been saving these,” Dad said, a small smile on his face. Mom walked in and said, “Let’s get to work.” As I saw her holding a box of buttons and thread and a pair of scissors, my worry began to melt away, replaced with a heart full of joy. “Thank you,” I whispered. Dad and Mom patted my shoulders gently, then we worked together to turn the cloth into something meaningful.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
For the next two hours, the living room became our workshop.
