The Best Movies of the Past Years
The Kid
It sometimes seems there’s an invisible force in the universe that we must all love Charlie
Chaplin. His character in the movie finds an abandoned baby on the street and takes him
home. These two are both a family and a team, held close by genuine joy in one another’s
company. When they’ re torn apart, it’s heartbreaking; when they’ re reunited, it restores our
faith in the order of the universe. Like many of Chaplin’s projects, the production of the film
was full of humor.
Bicycle Thieves
There are few greater film- watching experiences than Bicycle Thieves. On Antonio’s first
day of work, his bicycle is stolen, and he and his young son Bruno set out to get it back, a
quest of desperation and need that at first strengthens the father- son bond, before nearly
tearing it apart. What is even more impressive is that the director used no studio sets— all
of the settings are real- life locations in Rome.
The Night of the Shooting Stars
The movie, set in Tuscany, follows a group of citizens who leave their village just before
their houses are set to be blown up by the Nazis (纳粹). The story is told through the eyes of
six- year- old Cecilia, who sees the event as a great adventure. The movie is a mixture of
comedy, fantasy and sorrowful drama.
The Diary of Anne Frank
During World War II, in Holland under Nazi control, a shopkeeper and his wife decide to
hide the Frank and Van Daan families in a secret room behind their store. For more than two
years, they stay hidden, always afraid and unable to go outside because of the danger from
the Nazis. In her diary, she talks about her feelings, like hope and sadness, and how people
connect with each other in such a difficult situation.
11. What type of film might The Kid be
A. History. B. Comedy. C. Romance. D. Science fiction.
12. Which aspect of Bicycle Thieves might impress the audiences most
A. Its exciting plot. B. Its special effects. C. Its excellent actors. D. Its filming spots.
13. What do The Night of the Shooting Stars and The Diary of Anne Frank have in common
A. They are of the same type. B. They have elements of comedy.
C. They involve the influence of wars. D. They have the same shooting angle.
B
Do animals besides humans have emotions If so, which ones Scientists and animal lovers often debate this
issue. In the past, many scientists believed that animals could not be showing complex human emotions such as
empathy. Empathy is the understanding of and sharing in another’s feelings. For example, if your little brother’s
turtle dies, you probably would feel bad for him.
Several recent experiments and observations support the theory that animals show empathy. A few years ago,
biologist Marc Bekoff reports that when he was watching elephants in Kenya, he noticed an elephant that had been
lame for years. Although the elephant moved very slowly, the herd (兽群)never left it behind. They’d stop walking,
check on her, and then wait for her. Bekoff also tells of Alaskan bear cubs that were orphaned when their mother
was shot. One cub had been wounded, so he limped (跛行) along and swam painfully slowly, but his sister never
left his side. She even fished salmon out of the river for him.
There are reports of animals showing emotions besides empathy, too. In 2005, a humpback whale became
tangled in fishing lines off California’s coast. After divers freed the whale, it played with and nuzzled (用鼻爱抚)
each diver, seeming to show gratitude. Gorillas, llamas, and many other animals appear to express sorrow when a
mate dies. And then there’s the story of the two abandoned terriers (梗犬) that were taken to an animal shelter.
When one of them went blind, the other led his companion around the new environment until the blind dog learned
its way around. Maybe humans and animals aren’t so different after all.
14. Which animal or animals described in the passage showed empathy
A. The elephant herd. B. The blind dog. C. Gorillas and llamas. D. The humpback whale.
15. What makes the author doubt whether humans and animals are really so different
A. Animals have been shown to use tools. B. Animals appear to express emotions, too.
C. Many animals live in pairs or groups. D. Animals can suffer injuries, too.
16. What can we infer from the text
A. Animals feel greater pain than people do.
B. Empathy is an emotion shown only by humans.
C. Some animals do not want another animal to suffer.
D. Animals and people experience all the same emotions.
C
As a teenager, having problems with your parents is completely normal. These problems may result from
communication breakdowns, a lack of understanding, or moments when you feel your parents are being unfair.
Remember, improving your relationship with your parents is a process that requires time, effort, and patience from
both sides.
One of the most important steps in this process is showing respect. All parents desire respect from their
children, because it is necessary to the parent-child bond. It may not always be easy to respect your parents,
especially when you believe you have a better understanding of a situation. However, it’s important to admit their
wisdom and experience.
Sometimes parents may make mistakes even though they are adults. When your parents say something hurtful
to you, forgive them without a second thought. When you feed a lot of anger towards your parents, step into their
shores for a moment, and imagine how they feel. This can help you see eye to eye with them.
Effective communication is key to any healthy relationship. At the center of every relationship are a few
lines of communication, not one-way communication. Do voice your complaints (抱怨) to your parents. When you
complain to your parents, you should keep calm and talk with them openly and kindly. In order to express yourself
in a way that is easily acceptable, it is important to put your feelings into the form of “I” statements rather than
“You” statements. And in order to make communication more efficient, it is important to figure out what you would
like your parents to do clearly.
Once you get to know your parents, you’ll discover similarities between you and them, which will make it a
much simpler task to improve your relationship!
17. What can we infer from the passage about the relationship between teenagers and parents
A. It is harmonious. B. It can’t be better. C. It is not an easy task. D. It is a one-sided effort.
18. Why do all parents desire respect from their children
A. Because they sometimes may make mistakes.
B. Because it’s not easy for children to respect them.
C. Because children have a better grasp of situations.
D. Because it is important to the parent-child relationship.
19. How should children voice their complaints to their parents
A. Patiently and indirectly. B. Loudly but impolitely.
C. Peacefully and frankly. D. Secretly and differently.
20. What does the text mainly talk about A. Ways to solve problems with parents.
B. Differences between teenagers and parents.
C. The importance of parents’ respect for teenagers.
D. Reasons for problems between teenagers and parents.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
As an enthusiastic reader, I’ve always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a
book. 21 They introduce us to characters who feel as real as the people around us. This connection between
readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it’s why I value my personal library. It’s a collection
that reflects my journey through the world of words.
My library is not vast, but each book is carefully chosen. I have a mix of types in my collection, ranging
from classic literature to contemporary fiction. 22 Each type offers a different view, a new way of looking at
life. While some books challenge my thinking, others provide comfort. It’s important to have a balance. A
well-organized library is like a well-balanced diet for the mind.
Among my favourites are the works of Jane Austen and George Onwell. Austen’s sharp observations on
society and relationships are timeless. Her characters are imperfect yet charming. Orwell, on the other hand, offers
a stark (冷峻的) view of the world. His stories are a warning and a call to action. 23
I also enjoy non-fiction. Biographies (传记) and life stories offer insights into the lives of extraordinary
individuals. They remind us that greatness comes in many forms. Reading about the struggles and successes of
others can be incredibly inspiring. It’s a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference. These stories
encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind.
24 It is also a mirror of what I value and what I desire. It’s a sign of my love of learning and my desire to
understand the world. Each book is a stepping stone on my journey of discovery. They are friends in loneliness and
guides in times of uncertainty. 25
A. I believe in the power of variety.
B. My library is a reflection of who I am.
C. My library collection mainly focuses on one type.
D. Through them, I continue to explore, to grow, and to dream.
E. Both authors have taught me invaluable lessons about humanity
E. The stories we read shape our world view and broaden our minds.
G. Historical fiction, in particular, holds a special place in my heart.
