Once upon a time, there was a little horse living on a farm. One day, his mother asked him to take a bag of corn to the mill( 磨坊)on the other side of the river.
The little horse carried the bag happily, but when he reached the river, he stopped. The water looked deep and fast. He didn’t know if it was safe to cross.
He asked a cow nearby, “Is the river deep ” The cow said, “Not at all! I cross it every day. It only reaches my knees.” Then he saw a squirrel (松鼠)and asked the same question. “Oh no!” said the squirrel. “The river is very deep. It almost drowned(淹死)me!”
The little horse became confused(困惑的). Who should he believe He wanted to go back, but then he remembered what his mother said, “Don’t be afraid to try. You’ll never know until (直到)you test it yourself.”
So the little horse stepped carefully into the river. It was a little cold, but not too deep. He walked through it safely and felt proud. He learned not only to listen to others, but also to think for himself.

The Fishman and the Genie
Scene one [At the seashore.]
Narrator: A fisherman saw something
surprising in his net.
Fisherman: What’s this shiny thing Oh, it’s a
bottle! I wonder what’s inside.
Narrator: The fisherman opened the bottle.
A great cloud of smoke came out,
and it became a genie…

Fisherman: Before I die, answer me a question.
Genie: All right, but be quick.
Fisherman: Were you really in the bottle You are
so big and the bottle is so small. I think
it could hardly hold one of your feet.
Genie: Of course I was in the bottle. Don’t you
believe me
Fisherman: No, and I won’t believe you until I see you in the bottle with my own eyes.
Narrator: When the genie heard this, he changed into a cloud. Slowly the cloud went back into the bottle. When all of him was in the bottle, the fisherman quickly put the lid on and threw it back into the sea.
