Kevin
His parents had raised the 12-year-old to be a good boy. He never got into trouble……
Kevin grabbed Mrs. Hill’s home phone and called the police.
“Stop right there You must leave right now” he called out, holding the branch with both hands.
Somehow he wasn’t sure he had done the right thing.
Kevin
The man froze for a second, but when he saw the skinny boy he breathed a sigh of relief. “Hey, kid, put that down. It was my home. My parents used to live here and my father’s watch was here,” he explained, trying to lift a floorboard.
“What if he has told the truth ” he thought to himself. The man's words sounded pretty convincing.
2、Kevin
Hey, kid, put that down. It was my home. My parents used to live here and my father’s watch was here,” he explained, trying to lift a floorboard.
At that moment, the sounds of a police car echoed(回响)in the air. The man stood up in a panic, then ran through the house toward the window and jumped out.
Kevin followed out and told the arriving police officers what had happened. They pursued and arrested the man.
What can be predicted?
What is the theme of the story

When Mr. and Mrs. Green got home, Kevin went to talk to them. On arriving, he poured out the whole story without stopping – How a stranger had broken into their house. Hearing Kevin’s words, Mr. and Mrs. Green looked at each other with a mixture of shock and disbelief. But they had the same uncertainty “What if he has told the truth”. After a moment of silence, they decide to dig out the truth. Kevin led to the exact floorboard the man had tried to lift while Mr. Green , grabbing a stick in his hand, carefully lifted the floorboard. To everyone’s surprise, they discovered a watch lying quietly beneath it. Frozen for a second, Kevin let out a sign of regret and said anxiously, “Hurry Let’s go to the police station right now.”
Kevin and Mr. Green took the watch they had found to the police station. The police officers looked up as they entered. Mr. Green immediately handed the watch to a policeman. Kevin blushed with embarrassment, admitting that he had mistaken the man for a thief. When the police officer returned the watch to the man, in tears of gratitude, he quickly explained that the watch was actually a cherished keepsake for his father who urged him to get it back as soon as possible. Fully convinced this time, Kevin said guiltily, “ Sorry for the trouble I’ve made.” The man shook his head gently. “ No. You did the right thing.” Then he turned to Mr. Green, “ Sorry I made the trouble too.” He apologized. With the truth unveiled, the two men and the 12-year-old boy all felt relieved and beamed in delight.
