(Easton’s Artificial Arm)
Great inventions often start from small problems. Easton LaChappelle, a young inventor, created a useful invention after seeing others in trouble. His story shows that anyone can make a difference with creativity.
示例:Inventions don’t have to be complicated—they just need to solve real problems. Easton LaChappelle, a 14-year-old student, found his inspiration at a science fair when he met Jenny, a girl with an expensive artificial arm.
Jenny’s arm cost $80,000, which blew Easton away. He decided to lend a hand to kids like her. He built a robotic arm out of plastic blocks first, then kept working on it. With a 3-D printer, he invented a lighter arm that could move with brain signals. It took him years, but he finally hit on success.
示例:Jenny’s simple hook arm cost $80,000, and what’s worse, kids like her needed new prosthetics as they grew. Easton thought, “I can make a cheaper one!” He started with plastic blocks and fishing line, then got a 3-D printer at 16. He spent years improving the design—fixing problems one after another. Finally, at 23, he made an arm that weighed only 0.5 kg and cost $500.
Easton didn’t want to make money from his invention. He posted the design online for free, so people could download it and make arms for kids in need. What a helpful invention! His story teaches us that we should always try to solve problems with creativity.
示例:The best part Easton posted his design online for free. Families could use 3-D printers to make the arm for their kids. He said, “Helping others is better than making money.” His story tells me that invention is not just about creating—It’s about using skills to help people. I want to learn from him and turn small ideas into useful things.
(The Power of Curiosity)
Curiosity is the key to invention. Many great inventors started with a simple question: “Why ” It’s this desire to know that pushes them to explore and create. Without curiosity, there would be few amazing inventions.
示例:Albert Einstein once said, “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.” This sentence tells us how important curiosity is for invention—It’s the starting point of all great ideas.
Benjamin Franklin was curious about electricity. He did many experiments, like flying a kite in a storm, and finally invented the lightning rod. Wan Hu was so curious about space that he created a “flying chair” to explore the sky. These examples show that curiosity drives people to invent.
示例:Benjamin Franklin was drawn to electricity—he kept asking “How does it work ” He did experiments, even flying a kite in a storm, and invented the lightning rod to protect buildings. Zhang Heng was curious about the earth’s movements, so he studied the sky for years and made the first earthquake detector. Their curiosity turned into life-changing inventions.
Curiosity makes us ask questions and try new things. As students, we should stay curious about the world around us. It might lead us to create something amazing one day—after all, every invention starts with a “why.”
示例:Curiosity isn’t just about asking questions—it’s about wanting to find answers. It makes us keep trying, even when experiments fail. I’m curious about how plants grow, so I’ve been doing small experiments at home. Who knows Maybe my curiosity will lead to an invention too!
(Smart Reminder Cup)
We all face small problems in life that need clever solutions. I often forget to drink water during study, which makes me feel tired. So I want to design a smart cup to solve this problem.
示例:Many students like me forget to drink water when busy with homework. Sometimes we even feel thirsty but don’t notice—this is bad for our health. That’s why I want to create a “Smart Reminder Cup” to help people drink enough water.
My smart cup will be made of safe plastic. It has a small sensor that can tell how much water is left. When the cup is empty for 2 hours, it will make a soft beep to remind you to fill it. It’s light and easy to carry, so you can take it to school or home.
示例:The cup will be made of light, durable plastic—easy for students to carry. It has two key parts: a sensor and a small speaker. The sensor checks the water level; if you haven’t refilled it for 2 hours, the speaker makes a soft “beep” to remind you. You can also connect it to your phone to see how much water you’ve drunk.
This cup is simple but useful. It helps people form a good habit of drinking water. I hope to improve it later—maybe add a temperature sensor to keep water warm. Small inventions like this can make our lives better!
示例:This smart cup doesn’t cost much but solves a common problem. It will help students, office workers, even grandparents remember to drink water. I plan to test it with my family first, then change small parts to make it better. I believe this invention can make daily life easier—after all, great ideas start with solving small problems!
范文
A Small Invention for My Grandpa
My grandpa often forgets to take his medicine on time. This makes my family worried, so I decided to design a “Medicine Reminder Box” to help him.
The box is made of wood—simple and safe. It has three small parts: a clock, a light and a speaker. Every morning at 8, the clock rings, the light turns on, and the speaker says, “Grandpa, take your medicine!” I even pasted photos of our family on the box to make it warm.
My grandpa loves this box! He never misses his medicine now. This experience teaches me that invention isn’t about big machines—it’s about caring for others and solving small problems. I want to keep creating useful things for my family!
