主要语篇 One family, two worlds: an elephant’s story
教学目标 通过本课的学习，学生能够： 1. 把握文章的写作脉络，梳理、概括不同时期大象的生活境况。 2. 根据上下文语境合理推测具体词汇含义、故事中大象的情感及句子隐含的含义。 3. 理解文章的拟人手法，对比手法和细节描写。 通过对比人类的不同行为给大象家族带来的不同影响，理解人与动物之间和谐共生的关系，树立保护动物的意识。
教学重点 理解主阅读篇章的故事内容，了解文章的拟人手法，对比手法和细节描写，学习与濒危动物有关的核心单词和短语。
教学难点 以故事文本为载体，对比人类不同行为给动物世界带来的影响。
【单元课前预习】
让学生思考First thoughts栏目里的内容，即濒危动物的种类、濒危原因、保护濒危动物的意义和保护濒危动物的方式，并在方框中写下自己的答案。
鼓励学生在课前思考以下问题，并在课前预习单上写下简单的回答，在课上进行讨论。
What do you know about the living environments of animals
Animals live in different natural habitats, including forests, grasslands, mountains, wetlands, rivers and seas.
How can people improve the living conditions of animals in danger
People can restore their habitats, enforce laws to protect them and prevent poaching.
【教学过程】
Step 1 Before you read 读前活动，激活学生的背景知识
看图辨认（Look, match and discuss）：教师展示课本第68页图片，并提问“What do you know about these animals in danger 若学生程度较好，可补充更多动物的图片，扩充学生的背景知识。
知识竞赛（Quiz）：教师通过一个小知识竞赛引导学生了解濒危动物的生活环境。
Which animals live in the mountains of Central and Southern China
Which animals live in bamboo forests in Central and Western China
Which animals live in wetlands in Asia
Which animals live in the Arctic
Which animals live in grassland and forests in Asia
Which animals live in grassland in Africa
主题词联想（Word cloud challenge）：教师在黑板上画出云朵图形，标注主题词Asian elephant，让学生分组竞赛，轮流说出与主题词相关的单词或短语，教师将这些词汇填入词汇云中，学生基于词汇云开展对话练习。
S1: What do you know about elephants
S2: Elephants are ________（strong/smart/friendly/useful/important）. They __________.
教师提问“Why do you think some people want to hurt elephants ”，引出主阅读语篇的话题。学生开展头脑风暴，用思维导图列出人类捕猎大象的原因。
Step 2 Predict before reading 读前预测，初识文章的话题和体裁
教师引导学生快速浏览课文的标题、配图和第一段，通过以下问题了解本篇文章的体裁，猜测语篇内容和题目的含义。

The elephant’s family and their living conditions.
What do you think the “two worlds” refer to in the story
The old world and the new world.
How does the writer tell the story
The writer tells the story from the perspective of an elephant. The story is told in time order.
Step 3 Read for structure 略读文章，匹配段意
学生通过快速阅读，标清段落，总结段落大意，同时在课文中划出标志性句子或者关键词。

Step 4 Read for details 精读第二、三段，对比大象的生活境况
学生分成小组，在阅读语篇第二、三段后，完成课本第70页活动1。若学生程度较好，可引导学生参照下列表格信息，对比新旧世界中，人类行为及大象家族境况的变化。
The old world The new world
Human activities People raised guns and shot dead elephants. People made use of elephants. People leave bags of corn and fruit to guide elephants in the right direction. People use drones to follow their progress. Volunteers protect elephants from harm.
Living conditions of elephants Many elephants were killed. Young elephants were forced to do tricks to make humans laugh. There were fewer and fewer elephants. Elephants move freely across the land. Elephants swim and play happily.
Step 5 Read for details 精读第三段，总结人类保护大象的具体措施
教师呈现问题链，学生阅读语篇第三段，找出文中描述人类改善大象生存状况的相关做法，回答问题，同时从自身的角度进行思考，能通过哪些实际行动来改善大象的生存状况。

Step 6 Read for attitudes 再读文本，找到人类对动物态度的变化
教师呈现人类态度变化路线图（Humans were cruel to elephants.→ Humans treat elephants well），学生四人一组回到文本找语言证据，如：Humans were cruel to elephants. (shot dead; forced them to do tricks)→ Humans treat elephants well.(don’t chase or harm them; leave them bags of corn and fruit; follow their progress; protect them from danger; respect and value all animal species)。通过分析对比，帮助学生理解人类对动物态度的转变，加深对人与动物和谐共生概念的理解。
Step 7 读后活动
推断（Making inferences from context clues）
引导学生有感情地朗读以下句子，推断大象的情感变化。
Without warning they raised their guns and shot dead my mother and several of my relatives. (lines 7–8)
I was then trained and forced to do all kinds of stupid tricks to make humans laugh. (lines 10–12)
The little ones sometimes damage crops and people’s homes. But they are not chased or harmed. (lines 15–16)
No one forces them to move away from their land. (line 23)
What a different world this is! (line 24)
讨论（Discussion）
引导学生以小组形式探讨以下问题，帮助学生深度理解文本，思考保护濒危动物的意义和重要性。
Why is the story told by an elephant
To make the readers see things from the elephant’s perspective.
To make the story more believable.
To make the story more interesting.
To show that we should all help protect animals.
Why does the writer compare the past with the present in the story
It helps create a clear structure and makes the text more interesting.
It shows that things were different in the past.
It helps the readers understand what the problem is.
It also encourages people to think about what they can do to protect animals.
What will happen if we don’t protect wildlife
Species will die out. This will harm the ecosystem. In the end, this will harm people too.
In addition, if animal species disappear, we will lose an important part of our world’s shared heritage.
