Sometimes there’s nothing better than the “rush” you feel when you’re going at high speeds, or the wonder of going somewhere new and different, climbing a mountain or enjoying extreme sports like snowboarding. These are the adventures we “thrill seekers (寻找刺激的人)” live for. But sometimes we also need to know when to slow down.
Recently, I went quad biking (摩托车越野), or ATV driving, on a track in the mountains. After a brief instructional exercise and what seemed like lots of waiting, we put on our helmets (头盔), started our engines and got onto the track. The sound of the engine was exciting. As I got more confident, I couldn’t help overtaking other drivers whenever I got the chance. Finally, the way forward opened up and I went ahead of the others. I turned toward a small hill and raced down. As I soon found out, this was a big mistake. My ATV turned over at full speed.
Luckily, I knew it was happening and pushed myself out of the way of the falling ATV. If I had not, I probably would have broken my leg beneath the weight of the ATV or even lost it. I might have even broken my neck. It ended up turning out fine, apart from some soreness (疼痛) in my chest for a week or so. This was a surprise for my friend. After seeing the accident, he said to me, “Dude, I thought you were dead.” Perhaps I could have very well died, if I hadn’t been lucky that day.
That event was one I’ll always remember for the adventure and the near-death experience. It’s good to be adventurous, but it’s still really important to be wise and careful too. So, go on adventures, but be smart while you’ re on them!
24.What did the author do before starting his quad biking adventure
A.He checked his ATV again and again.
B.He received some instruction and waited.
C.He made a personal survey of the track.
D.He shared his experience with other drivers.
25.What happened when the author tried to race down a small hill
A.He lost control of his ATV. B.He slowed down his speed.
C.He broke his neck and leg. D.He hit his friend’s ATV.
26.How would you describe the author
A.Bold and careful. B.Risky and wise.
C.Adventurous and lucky. D.Humorous and smart.
27.What’s the main message the author wants to convey in the text
A.Never be afraid of failure in life.
B.It is fun to live an adventurous life.
C.Accidents are a natural part of adventures.
D.Keep safety in mind while on an adventure.

Who do you think is the next big, rising star in the world of music Well, AI seems to be causing quite a stir!
Yes, that’s right! Artificial Intelligence (AI) — computer software that allows machines to think and learn in a human way — is writing music, and the results are amazing!
AI does this by analyzing huge amounts of musical data, using existing samples, styles and types and can learn to create something completely new. There are lots of different AI Music software out there, including Boomy, Beatoven. ai and AIVA.
AI music has been spreading online with users creating songs that contain cloned voices of artists such as Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Kendrick Lamar.
An online creator named “ghostwriter” made the song Heart on My Sleeve, featuring the cloned voices of singers Drake and the Weeknd without their permission. It managed to get 15 million TikTok views, before Universal Music Group successfully asked for it to be taken down.
Is AI music legal There are still no clear laws surrounding the creation of AI music. Whether AI music can be legally protected is still under debate. However, some musicians are happy to embrace AI and want to use it to improve their music.
DJ David Guetta told the BBC that he is “sure the future of music is in AI... but as a tool”. Sting, an English singer, believes that “there’s going to be a battle we all have to fight in the next couple of years, defending our human capital against AI”. He urged artists to be careful, saying “the tools are useful, but we have to drive them”.
Singer Grimes seems enthusiastic about the introduction of AI music, with Rolling Stone reporting that she said people should “feel free to use her voice” and that she’ll “share 50 percent profits on any successful AI created song that uses her voice”.
28.How does AI create music
A.By copying existing songs.
B.By working with musicians together.
C.By learning from human emotions and feelings.
D.By basing the new music on existing musical data.
29.Why was Heart on My Sleeve taken down
A.Because it was not good enough.
B.Because it was too expensive to produce.
C.Because it was illegal to use AI in music production.
D.Because it used popular artists’ voice without their authority.
30.What does the underlined word “embrace” in paragraph 6 probably mean
A.Challenge. B.Change. C.Accept. D.Stop
31.What is Singer Grimes’ attitude towards AI music
A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Curious. D.Unclear.

Live concerts are becoming a vital part of youth culture in China. In 2024 alone, large-scale shows generated over 26 billion yuan from ticket sales, with nearly 30 million fans filling arenas. 36 I think it’s the unique, multi-sensory experience that digital performances or your playlists can’t provide.
I will never forget my first concert. The moment my friends and I stepped into the arena, I felt the air buzzing with excitement. Thousands of people were waiting expectantly, many wearing T-shirts with the singer’s name and holding glowing light sticks. 37
When the lights went out, the crowd roared. A single spotlight lit up the stage, and then — boom — the music started. 38 And the bass made my heart pound. Then the singer’s voice came through, dynamic and transporting. Every line was filled with emotion, as if it were telling my own story.
What struck me most profoundly, though, was the connection between that vast crowd of strangers. At that moment, it didn’t matter who we were or where we came from. 39 Then the stage quieted and so did we. As a slow song began, I looked around and saw thousands of glowing lights, the audience swaying together and singing softly. It felt simply magical.
On the journey home, my voice was hoarse from singing and my legs tired from dancing, yet my heart was full and content. That night gave me more than just music. It gifted me a cherished memory. The same holds true for countless young fans, because concerts are not merely events. 40 This is why live concerts have gained in popularity across China: They create shared experiences that bring people together and make life richer, brighter, and more alive.
A.Every note was remarkably clear.
B.We were all part of one big family.
C.It was we who made the performance a hit.
D.Everyone was ready for something amazing.
E.But what exactly makes these events so appealing
F.Their energy is truly unmatched by any digital format.
G.They are significant milestones on a personal journey.

In July 2021, young real estate (房地产) developer Elliot Norris set his sights on old Joe Brooke’s land, eager to build a high-end commercial mall. Joe’s small house stood in the way. “Two weeks to leave,” Elliot said coldly, although Joe begged, “This house is all I have left of my wife.”
For two long weeks, Joe hoped for a wonder, but the day to tear down the house arrived. As the machines worked, Joe shouted, “Your mother once lived here! She called this place ’home’ when you were a baby!” Elliot laughed and pushed him away. “Stop making up stories,” he said meanly. “Money solves everything.” He watched as the house fell apart, unaware that each falling piece was breaking his own past.
That night, Elliot returned to the ruins. Among the bricks, he found a broken photo frame showing his mother, Samantha, holding him as a baby with Joe. Shocked, he remembered his mother’s words: “Someday, thank the man who gave us shelter.” He had always thought she meant a charity. He rushed to the nursing home and found Joe looking sadly at a photo of his wife.
Joe then told the truth. Over twenty years ago, he’d found Samantha, homeless and pregnant (怀孕的) . He let her stay in his home for five years, even offering his late wife’s room to her. With his retirement savings, he bought her a house. “She lived a happy life there until she passed away a few years ago,” Joe said. “She always hoped you’d understand the value of kindness. She visited me occasionally, bringing your photos, but you were always too busy to come with her.”
As Elliot grew up, his life took him away from his mother. Sent to boarding schools and then studying abroad, he spent long periods apart from his mother due to his busy schedule. It was only now, facing the man who had once saved his mother, that he realized the depth of his mistakes and the importance of the kindness Joe had shown.

66.【答案】Dear David,
I’m more than happy to share my thoughts on the “at least 2 hours of daily physical activity” initiative.
Personally, I fully support it. As senior high students, we’re often buried in textbooks, so regular exercise helps relieve our study pressure effectively. It also strengthens our bodies, making us more energetic in class. Additionally, team sports like basketball teach us cooperation.
My suggestion is to add more fun activities like frisbee or badminton. It would also be better to arrange fixed time to avoid conflicting with our lessons.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Elliot felt bad about what he had done and wanted to make it right. So he promised to build a new house for Joe. He spent lots of time checking building plans, trying to make Joe’s house exactly like it was before. He chose materials that looked just like the old ones, from the old bricks to the wooden beams. As the house was being built, he visited every day, often working with the builders himself. He hoped his hard work would show how sincere he was in his efforts to correct the situation.
When the house was finally completed, he invited Joe to visit it. Joe’s eyes filled with tears as he walked through each room, with memories coming back. That same evening, Elliot came back with food to make a meal. As they sat at the new kitchen table, Elliot listened carefully while Joe told stories about his childhood. The sound of forks and knives and the smell of food filled the air, making both of them feel more relaxed and start a new friendly relationship.
