A few nights afterward, when it was pouring, I opened the door and the dog was there. It curled up蜷缩 in a lawn chair outside our house, trembling发抖 because of chill寒冷. I comforted安慰 myself with the hope that the storm would persuade说服 our little friend to return to our warm house. Then an idea hit me. I kept the door open and raced to the refrigerator冰箱 for some hot dogs. I cut them up and made a trail of一堆 hot-dog pieces from the door into the living room. My husband’s chair was at the end of the trail小径. He sat and waited with more hot-dog pieces in his hand.
