Step 1 Review
Activity 1 Review
Check the answers to the reading comprehension exercises to review the main content of the text: the life story, medical contributions and noble virtues of Dr Lin Qiaozhi.
Step 2 Language Focus
(In this step, the teacher explains some of the new and important language items in the context by offering some examples so that the students could comprehend the text better, and also focus on how to use the language items in specific language situations created by the teacher or doing some exercises such as sentence making and blank-filling exercises to help the students to grasp their usages.)
Activity 2 Learning about the new language items
At age 18, she chose to study medicine, against the strong wish of many of her family members. 18岁时，她不顾众多家人的强烈意愿，选择了学医。

In 1941, Dr Lin became the first Chinese woman ever to be appointed director of the OB-GYN department of the PUMC Hospital. 1941年，林医生成为首位被任命为北京协和医院妇产科主任的中国女性。

e.g. If you have any health problems, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Though Lin Qiaozhi never married, she was known as the "mother of ten thousand babies", having delivered over 50,000 babies in her lifetime. 林巧稚一生未婚，却被誉为“万婴之母”，一生中接生了超过5万名婴儿。

What do most moral models have in common Why do you think these qualities are important to our society
Suggested answer: Most moral models share the qualities of selflessness, dedication, kindness, responsibility and a firm belief in helping others. These qualities are important because they are the foundation of a harmonious society. They can guide people to do the right thing, inspire more people to help others, and pass on positive energy to the whole society. As social creatures, we need these virtues to build trust and care between each other.
How do you feel about the traditional moral virtues that are fading away in modern society
Suggested answer: I feel very sorry and worried about it. These traditional moral virtues, such as honesty, respect for the elderly, and dedication, are the treasure of Chinese culture. They shape our character and make our society warmer. If they fade away, we will lose our cultural root and the trust between people will be broken. We should take action to pass on these virtues from generation to generation.
