Audio script
Ballet is a special form of art. It’s a French word. It means “to dance”. There’s no talking or singing in ballet. Instead, the ballet dancers express themselves through dance. They also use other forms of body language, such as gestures and facial expressions, to tell stories.
Ballet began in Western Europe in the 15th century. Today it has become popular all over the world.
One of the most famous ballets in the world is Swan Lake. The dancers tell the story and express different feelings through their body language. For example, when the Prince meets the Swan Queen, she tells him her story. When she meets someone who will love her forever, she will return to her human self. The dancer holds her hands to her heart to mean love and points to the sky to say forever.
Ballet is beautiful, but it’s not easy to become a ballet dancer. Many of the dance moves are very difficult. For example, dancers need to make difficult jumps and kick their legs sideways. Female ballet dancers even need to balance on the tips of their toes. Training usually starts at an early age, and the dancers have to go through a lot of training to keep their bodies strong. They have to practise very hard every day. They learn to use their bodies to express all kinds of feelings in a beautiful way.
