What is IUCN
The IUCN Red List
The IUCN Red List was created in 1964. It contains information about the conservation status of different animal species. The list divides species into nine categories.
Below are two of the conservation categories on the list:
Vulnerable (VU) The species risks dying out in the wild. For example:
There are fewer than 1,000 individuals left, or
the population has fallen by 30%–60% in the past 10 years / three generations.
Endangered (EN) The species faces a very high risk of dying out in the wild. For example:
There are fewer than 250 individuals left, or
the population has fallen by 50%–80% in the past 10 years / three generations.

(3)How many categories does the IUCN Red List divide species into
(4) Can you name two conservation categories from the list
(5) What makes a species “Endangered”, according to the IUCN
(6) What makes a species “Vulnerable”
There are fewer than 1,000 individuals left, or the population has fallen by 30%–60% in the past 10 years / three generations.

9.
Vulnerable and endangered.
The IUCN Red List was created in 1964.
There are fewer than 250 individuals left, or the population has fallen by 50%–80% in the past 10 years / three generations.
(7) Which category of wildlife is the most at risk of dying out Which category is the least at risk
(8) Which of the three animals is the least at risk Why
EW is the most at risk of dying out.
The giant panda is the least at risk. Its IUCN Red List status is VU, and the current panda population is growing thanks to the tireless efforts of Chinese people to protect it.

Chinese Sturgeon.
(3) The giant panda has changed from EN into VU. Can you tell the reason
Wild population is increased due to anti-poaching efforts and habitat restoration in China.
China has done many things to save the giant panda from dying out. First, many panda reserves have been set up. Second, people bring pandas to breeding centres to make sure they have babies. Third, the government makes laws to protect pandas.
