Have you ever wondered why the letters on akeyboard are not in “ABC” order
The keyboard we use every day is called the QWERTY keyboard layout (布局). Q, W, E, R, T, Y are the first six letters on this layout, starting from the top left. 35 The first manual typewriter (手动打字机), with a keyboard which looked like a piano, was invented in the late 19th century. 36 However, people later found out that as the typing speed (速度) increased, some keys failed to come back to their places quickly. As a result, they got jammed (卡住) very easily. 37 To solve this problem, the QWERTY keyboard was invented. It placed keys in such a way that the most used letters were spaced out so that the keys were more likely to work freely.
38 With the arrival of the computer, the typists in offices were the same people who were to now use computers. This meant the typists had to be trained to use the new device (设备). 39 It was easier to design the keyboards following the layout of typewriters, which was the QWERTY layout, and this continues even today.

Dear Mary,
I’m happy to hear that you are coming to visit China. I highly recommend visiting Qinghai Lake, one of China’s most stunning places.
Qinghai Lake is famous for its stunning blue waters and vast grasslands around it. Located in northeastern Qinghai Province, it covers over 4,500 square kilometers, being China’s largest inland saltwater lake. You can cycle along the 360-kilometer lakeside road, taste local yogurt or take a boat trip to Bird Island. From April to June, over 100,000 migratory birds, like bar-headed geese, gather there. Take a high-speed train to Xining, then a bus to the lake—it’s super convenient.
I’m sure this place will leave you with unforgettable memories. Looking forward to your arrival!
Yours,
Li Hua.
