A. A football game James and Allen watched.
B. A cooking accident caused by an oil fire.
C. How to make perfect fried chicken.
D. Allen’s first aid training at school.
Read the story and find out how the fire started.
The fire started because James left the oil heating on the stove unattended while he went to the living room to talk with Allen about the football game. The oil overheated and caught fire.

More questions for details.
1. Why did James leave the kitchen while the oil was heating
2. What caused the oil in the pan to catch fire
Because he heard Allen’s singing and words. And he wanted to know more about the football game.
The oil caught fire because it was left unattended on the stove and became too hot.
3. Why did James’s shirt catch fire
4. What would happen if Allen poured water on the fire
5. Why did James run cool water over his arm
Because he stood too close to the burning pan, and a flame jumped onto it.
It would make the fire much worse because water causes hot oil to splash and spread the flames.
Because it was burned when his shirt caught fire. Cooling a burn with running water helps reduce pain and prevent further damage to the skin.
Read again. Complete the summary of the story using the details in 1c. Then retell the story.
