For months afterward, I shook with anxiety every morning. Unwilling to take medicine, I tried everything else. Mindfulness meditation led to panic attacks. Hot yoga built muscle but did nothing for my anxiety. I went to talks by Buddhist monks and meditation teachers hoping to get inner peace, but in vain. Finally, I made efforts to find solutions with attending a SKY Breath Meditation class, which involves a 20-minute breathing fitness in different postures and rhythms. Though I’m not quite sure about it, I came out calm. Two decades later, I haven’t missed a day of my breathing practice, not even when I gave birth.I’ve also devoted part of my research career to studying the benefits of breathing for mental health and well-being. Seven years after 911 incident, I was working with elder soldiers returning from war who suffered stress problems. Traditional treatments had failed many of them, so my colleagues and I ran a randomized controlled trial to test the effects of SKY pared with the control group, elder soldiers practicing SKY every day for one week saw their anxiety drop to levels typical of the general population. Even though most did not continue to practice, they maintained the benefits a year later.Emotions influence your breathing patterns, and changing your breathing can change your emotions. For example, anxiety and anger match with an irregular, short, fast breath. Adopting the slower and more regular breathing pattern that match with a calm feeling signals relaxation by activating the nerve, slowing heart rate, easing blood pressure, and settling you down. A simple exercise you can try is to close your eyes and breathe out for twice as long as you breathe in. Do this for five minutes in the morning, before a stressful meeting, or as you transit from work to home.4. What’s the cause of the author’s anxiety A. The crash of a plane. B. The talks with monks.C. The personal health problem. D. The unwillingness of taking medicine.5 How the author test the effects of SKY breathing A. By working with healthy elder soldiers.B. By choosing victims in the 911 incident.C. By adopting a randomized controlled trial.D. By cooperating with researchers from yoga classes.6. What kind of person is the author A. Helpful but strict. B. Calm and positive.C. Kind and generous. D. Ambitious and hard-working.7. What’s the purpose of the passage A. To raise the public awareness of stress problems.B. To argue the most effective way of treating mental illness.C. To introduce the ways of contacting with varieties of individuals.D. To indicate the benefits of breathing to attain a better well-being.CYou won’t be surprised to hear that sweet treats such as cakes and biscuits contain sugar. But do you know that it occurs naturally in most foods apart from meat and fish Sugar is in all kinds of food but where does it come from Humans started growing sugar cane (甘蔗) around 10,000 years ago on the island of New Guinea in the Pacific Ocean. Before that, honey and juice from fruit were almost the only sweeteners people had. Over thousands of years, knowledge of how to grow sugar cane spread to China, Southeast Asia and India. Slowly, the love of sugar travelled west.In the 11th century, soldiers who fought in the wars in the Middle East brought sugar back to Britain. It took a long time for it to become popular there, partly because it was very expensive. It was used economically as a spice and a medicine for coughs and stomach problems. For hundreds of years, sugar was a luxury reserved for royalty and nobles — but the market grew steadily. By the 17th century, the industries growing sugar in the Caribbean couldn’t keep up with demand. More industries to grow more sugar cane needed more people to work for them. To feed this need, Europeans enslaved men, women and children from Africa and transported them to the Caribbean and Central and South America. There they were forced to work in terrible conditions. Britain’s craving for sugar helped drive this trade in enslaved people. Nowadays, most companies try to make sure that the farmers and workers who produce their sugar are treated fairly. The most common type of sugar in the UK is white granulated (白砂糖). Icing sugar is the same thing but ground into a fine powder. Brown sugars, on the other hand, have a slight caramel taste. This comes from a dark syrup called molasses (糖浆). Most molasses comes from sugar cane and it is a “by-product” (something less important created during a process) of sugar-making. Brown sugars are basically white sugar with a bit of molasses put back in.Experts say that sugar is fine when eaten in small amounts — the trouble comes when people eat too much of it. Doctors warn that sugar is bad for your health and dentists agree sugar attacks the hard layer of enamel that protects your teeth. Enjoy sugar as an occasional treat, say experts, and brush your teeth twice a day.8. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about A. How sugar spread to Britain.B. How people started growing sugar.C. How sugar was made from sugar cane.D. What sweeteners people had in ancient times.9. Why did sugar take a long time to be widely accepted in Britain A. Because it was difficult to grow there.B. Because it was only known to have medical uses.C. Because it couldn’t be afforded by ordinary people.D. Because British people preferred honey and fruit juice.10. The underlined word “craving” in paragraph 4 is closest in meaning to ______.A. Access B. Desire C. Dislike D. Concern11. Which of the following statements would the experts most likely agree with A. Eating sugar does no good to your health.B. White sugar is much healthier than brown sugar.C. Sugar is not harmful in small amounts to the body.D. Eating sugar is essential for maintaining a balanced diet.DFreezers are essential technology as they keep many different kinds of foods and medicines fresh. But they worsen climate change. Freezers, refrigerators and air conditioners create a lot of greenhouse gases — about 10 percent of the world’s annual emissions! The electricity which a freezer consumes over its lifetime represents about 80 percent of its impact on the climate. What if freezers could use less electricity while preserving the same amount of stuff That’s where a new approach called isochoric freezing (定容冷冻) comes in.Boris Rubinsky is a biomedical engineer at the University of California. He came up with the idea for isochoric freezing while working on ways to preserve human organs for transplants. He realized the technique might work well for food, too. So, he began working with the ARS to test it. They found that if the food industry worldwide were to switch over to this approach, the drop in emissions per year would be equal to taking about one million gas-powered cars off the road!To use isochoric freezing, you fill a special container with a liquid (perhaps plain water or juice) and float food inside, near the top. Then you seal it up and place the whole thing in a regular freezer. The water begins freezing from the bottom and expands. This increases the pressure inside the container.Eventually, the high pressure makes it impossible for ice to keep forming. The food at the top remains floating in liquid at “close to freezing temperatures, but without any ice in the food,” explains Bilbao-Sainz.Why does this save electricity The food never freezes solid, so it takes much less energy to get the canister cold enough. A typical food freezer runs at –20 degrees Celsius. But to use isochoric freezing with solid foods such as tomatoes or blueberries, your freezer needs to be at –5 degrees Celsius or higher, says Bilbao-Sainz.To use the new technique, the food industry wouldn’t have to change out their current freezers, just set them to run warmer. Bilbao-Sainz and her team are working on ways to produce and sell containers of different sizes. If all that weren’t exciting enough, this new method also usually results in fresher, tastier foods. Regular freezing forms ice that damages many foods. If you put a tomato into a regular freezer, for example, it will turn to mush when you unfreeze it. In an isochoric freezer, though, “tomatoes got really, really good results,” says Bilbao-Sainz. “They taste fresh.”What do you think Are regular frozen foods about to become old-fashioned 12. Which of the following statements is NOT TRUE about isochoric freezing A. It was invented by a biomedical engineer.B. It was first used to preserve human organs.C. It works by freezing food at extremely low temperatures.D. It is not widely used in the food industry across the world.13. According to the article, switching to isochoric freezing could result in ______.A. reduced greenhouse gas emissions B. increased emissions from energy useC. decreased food waste in grocery stores D. increased water usage in food production14. How is isochoric freezing better than traditional freezing methods A. It consumes no electricity. B. It prevents food from going bad.C. It requires less energy to keep food cold. D. It makes food fresher than before freezing.15. What’s the main idea of the passage A. Isochoric freezing technology has been out of date.B. A new type of environmentally friendly freezing method.C. The environmental impact of regular freezer technology.D. The origin of using isochoric freezing in food preservation.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。How to Avoid Data Breaches (泄露)Personal data breaches are happening more often nowadays. His family struggled to make ends meet, and the lack of basic necessities was a daily reality.Ali and his younger sister shared a single pair of shoes, a worn-out pair that was their most prized possession. They had developed a routine his sister would wear the shoes for her physical education class, then rush to their meeting spot to pass them to Ali so he could wear them to his class. On days when they both had class at the same time, only one of them could have the comfort of shoes, and they would often take turns. The school was strict, and several times they were punished for attending class barefoot. The siblings dreamed of owning a pair of shoes that didn’t have to be stylish, just something that would protect their feet. This simple wish sparked determination in Ali’s heart. He heard about a long-distance race in their town, where the third-place prize was a pair of shoes. He set his eyes on this goal, aiming not to be the best but to secure those shoes that were so essential to his and his sister’s happiness.Race day arrived, bringing both excitement and anxiety. As soon as the whistle blew, Ali faced challenges; he was knocked down multiple times but refused to give up. His focus never wavered — he kept imagining those shoes, a beacon of hope pushing him onward. The race tested his limits, each breath a mixture of pain and willpower. But he couldn’t afford to stop; too much was riding on his persistence.注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。Paragraph 1: He passed one person after another, eventually he got first place.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2: He felt greatly disappointed because he didn’t get the shoes of his dream.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源列表 2025-2026学年江西省抚州市上学期学生学业质量监测高二英语试题.docx 2025-2026学年江西省抚州市上学期学生学业质量监测高二英语试题答案.docx
