　　Across the world, 1.3 billion single use plastic water bottles are bought daily. However, with only around 9% of plastic being recycled, most of these bottles wind up in landfills(最终进入垃圾场) or the sea.
When Madison, a 12 year old girl, noticed these plastic bottles during her family’s holidays in California, she was deeply troubled. “I just felt like this situation had to change,” she said to Smithsonian Magazine. The sight(景象) of plastic waste on the beautiful beach remained in her mind.
In 2021, the idea of creating an eatable water bottle to combat(与……搏斗) plastic pollution appeared. She named her invention the Eco Hero.
To bring her idea to life, Madison did some research. She built on old methods, doing many experiments with common food. Through her efforts, she found that a combination of water, lemon juice and Alginic acid(褐藻酸) formed a new kind of bottle. This bottle could safely hold up to 3/4 cup of water and remain in good condition in the fridge for three weeks.
Madison believed the Eco Hero could replace the paper cups used by runners in races. After drinking the water with the bottles, runners could either eat or throw them away, as these bottles would break down easily in nature.
Madison hopes that the Eco Hero will encourage others to take action to protect the planet. “It doesn’t have to be in a big way,” she said. “Common people can still make a difference in the world, even if it’s just in a small way.”

　　Miniaturization(微型化) has been a goal of engineers and designers for a few years. The ever smaller products have included pocket sized computers and motorbikes which are the size of a backpack. The latest thing is a handbag which can pass through the eye of a needle(针). It has been sold for ＄63,750 online, according to a post(帖子) made by the company MSCHF on 14 June 2023.
“Smaller than a grain of sea salt, this handbag is so small that you’ll need a microscope(显微镜) to see it,” MSCHF wrote in the post. There are big handbags, normal handbags, and small handbags, but this is the final word in bag miniaturization. An object like a handbag is useful, but it becomes smaller and smaller. It is losing its original use until it turns into just a brand.
The tiny handbag is 657 by 222 by 700 micrometres and was shown to the public in Paris in June. It was made with high technology which uses 3 D printers. MSCHF chose the technology to see how small a handbag they could make.
MSCHF’s creative officer Kevin Wiesner was interviewed by The New York Times. “I think the bag is a funny object because it comes from something very functional,” Wiesner said. “But in fact, it has become jewelry(珠宝).”

A self driving car, also called a driverless car, is a car that can sense its surroundings and drive without human help.
