On March 9th, Kiska died(去世) at 47. She lived in a park in Canada for more than ten years. When she was three, people found her along with a male named Keiko in Icelandic Waters(冰岛水域) in 1979. Then they went to Canada. They lived there together for a few years. In 1985, Keiko went to Mexico. He even played a role in the movie Free Willy in 1993. After that, he went back to the ocean.
Kiska was not that lucky. She did not go anywhere. In her lifetime, she had five babies, but all of them died very young. This made her very sad. If whales live in the wild(野外), they can live 30 to 50 years. Kiska’s final partner in the tank(水箱) went back to the United States in 2011. From then on, she was there on her own.

　　Chu Wenwen is famous as the “Beaver Princess(公主)”. Four years ago, she went back home to Xinjiang. That’s when Mengxin beavers became a part of her life.
Mengxin beavers are a first class state protected animal in China. They are only in Xinjiang. When Chu went there, she was surprised. “Many beavers die. Willow shrubs(灌木柳) are their most important food, but they were disappearing(消失) in the area,” she said. “I decided to do something.”
In 2018, Chu started the “beaver canteen” programme and made a plan to plant shrubs for them. It cost over 2 million yuan. To raise(筹款) money, she posted videos on the Internet. These videos showed how beavers build dams and how she saved wild animals. Her videos also showed the beavers eating the shrubs. Through her work, people give their money to plant about 400,000 shrubs.
Because of Chu’s efforts, the number of beaver nests has increased from 162 to 190 over the past four years. Chu said, “We really wish more people, especially the youth, to take part in nature conservation.”
Now, she is working on a new programme called the “beaver ark”. It’s a hospital for injured(受伤的) wild animals. She also runs a “beaver guardian” programme. It trains local people to protect them along the river.
