Generations are typically defined as groups of people within a specific time period who share common social experiences. Below is the list of the most notable generational groups.Baby
boomers
Baby boomers are individuals born between 1946 and 1964, during a period known as the “baby
boom”, which saw a significant increase in birth rates following World War Ⅱ. The cohort (一批人) is generally expected to have a longer lifespan compared to earlier generations. They benefited from a stable post-war economy, allowing them to accumulate wealth and secure leadership roles across multiple sectors.Generation X
Generation X refers to those who were born between 1965 and 1980. Gen Xers were often called
the Latchkey Generation because many came home from school to empty houses, needing a key to let themselves in. This was due to rising divorce rates, increased maternal (母亲的) workforce
participation, and limited childcare options. As parents, they were the first to adopt “helicopter parenting”, being more involved in their children’s lives.Generation Y
Born between 1981 and 1996, Gen Yers are also known as millennials. The cohort embraced the
world with optimism. They were all about taking care of themselves and making the world a better place. In terms of parenting, millennials, who were “helicoptered over” in their youth, allow their children to explore and create without constant structure or supervision.Generation Z
Gen Zers, born between 1997 and 2009, grew up in a time where information and
technology played a central role in their lives. However, some of them saw it almost as an escape, rather than just a source of entertainment and relaxation. This generation has learned that the
economy can face sudden crisis, leading them to adopt more conservative (保守的) approaches both economically and socially.
1 .Why is Generation X called the Latchkey Generation
A .Gen Xers resisted attending school. B .Gen Xers acquired enormous wealth.
C .Gen Xers were often left on their own. D .Gen Xers were in charge of house keys.
2 .What do millennials feature
A .They closely manage their kids’ life. B .They appeared increasingly positive.
C .They prepare well for economic crisis. D .They use a freer way to raise their kids.
3 .Which generation group are especially cautious of their finance
A .Baby boomers. B .Generation X. C .Generation Y. D .Generation Z.

knowing he wanted to work with children. A vital moment came when he attended a psychology class that explored how social biases develop. This inspired him tojoin a psychology lab, where he researched how children viewed themselves and how their school experiences shaped these
perceptions.
During his junior year, Kheshawn met a fellow student who desired to be a high school English teacher. This encounter reawakened his passion for teaching. He decided to major in psychology and minor in education, ultimately earning a Be GLAD education certificate.
Currently, he is enrolled in a teacher preparation program and teaches at REACH Academy, a public school in Oakland, just a block from his childhood home. He is teaching a combined
third-grade class and fourth-grade class, aiming to create enriching experiences for his students and their families.
Kheshawn’s daily routine begins early, arriving at school by 7:30 AM to prepare for the
day. He emphasizes collaboration in his classroom, using group activities to support students at
different learning levels. Kheshawn advises ambitious teachers to prioritize building relationships with their students and families, saying that teaching is a collaborative effort that depends on
partnerships. He believes that mistakes should be viewed as opportunities for growth, encouraging both students and their parents to adopt this mindset.
Despite the challenges his students face, such as poverty and immigration stress, Kheshawn remains dedicated to fostering a supportive classroom environment. He decides to pursue a
master’s degree in education while continuing to teach elementary school. His ultimate goal is to create programs that expose students to new opportunities beyond their immediate surroundings.
4 .Which factor mainly reshaped Kheshawn’s career path
A .The experience of taking a psychology class. B .The desire to contribute to his high school.
C .The pressure from a psychology lab. D .The need for a music profession.

As the U. S. Midwest was experiencing another heat wave, temperatures and humidity (湿热) in the region were being further fueled by “sweating” corn. If you didn’t have sweaty produce on your 2025 bingo card, you’re not alone; but “corn sweat” is a real phenomenon that adds
moisture (水分) to the atmosphere and makes hot conditions even hotter and more unpleasant.
It’s just one unexpected way in which human activities, from agriculture to deforestation and pollution, can have surprising effects on regional weather patterns, sometimes enhancing the impacts of climate change.
Corn, like other plants, uses a process called evapotranspiration to draw water from the soil, take what it needs to function, and release the rest into the atmosphere via evaporation (蒸发). The higher the temperature, the more water corn needs, and the greater amount of water that
evaporates.
Just one acre of corn can release 3,000 to 4,000 gallons of moisture in a day, according to the U. S. Geological Survey. An oak (橡树) tree, by comparison, can transpire about 40,000
gallons of moisture in a year, an average of about 109 gallons per day.
“Any place you have corn fields and it’s hot, you get corn sweat,” says meteorologist Dale Mohler. “In a state like Iowa, where approximately 24 million acres of land are devoted to
growing corn and soybeans, it can bump the humidity on a hot day by up to 30 or 40 percent.”
With climate warming comes a constant feedback circle: Warmer weather in the Midwest is also leading to more precipitation, meaning that there is more water in the soil for corn to absorb and transpire, which adds more water vapor to the air and further fuels warming.
The increased humidity from corn sweat not only makes heat waves even more
uncomfortable, but it can also be dangerous. “When the air is dry, you sweat and the evaporation cools you off,” says Mohler. “But that doesn’t work as well in humid conditions, because there is so much moisture in the atmosphere already. That’s why you feel that much more miserable when

9 .What is the author’s purpose in mentioning the oak tree
A .To describe oak’s low evaporating speed.
B .To compare the growth of corn and oak.
C .To introduce how much water corn needs.
D .To highlight corn’s high moisture release.
10 .What does the underlined word “precipitation” in paragraph 6 mean
A .Heat. B .Consumption. C .Energy. D .Rainfall.
11 .Why does humidity make people uncomfortable
A .It adds moisture to the soil. B .It causes people to sweat more.
C .It is bad for sweating. D .It raises body temperature.

Until recently, when scientists studied cells from people and animals, they often had to
examine large samples, producing an average of results from many kinds of cells. The process was like trying to learn about bananas by studying a smoothie — a drink made from different types of fruit.
In recent years, scientists have developed methods that let them directly study the activity of cells and the genetic structure of individual cells. Single-cell analysis is the term for a group of techniques that scientists have developed for isolating or separating cells from living organisms.
Scientists can study genetic material in each cell and learn about the relationships between cells.
The result, notes the journal Science, is that researchers can follow the development of people and other organisms in incredible detail.
Francis Collins, who is the former director of the National Institutes of Health, recently
noted the importance of such techniques for understanding human beings. “Single-cell analysis is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of our biology and health,” he said.
Jonathan Weissman is a stem cell biologist at the University of California San Francisco.
He notes that single-cell analysis lets scientists ask much more detailed, exacting questions than they could in the past. “It’s like a flight recorder, where you are watching what went wrong and not just looking at a snapshot at the end,” he said. “We can ask questions at a resolution that was just not possible before.”
Nicholas Navin is a professor from the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He uses single-cell DNA studies to discover patterns of mutations in cells of a cancerous tumor. These studies let Navin recreate when and where those mutations appeared as the tumor developed. That
information helps him identify cells that contain combinations of mutations that make them the deadliest. “In the future, such research could be used to help identify what treatments to use for certain patients,” Navin said. The research might also help doctors follow how well their
treatments are working against a cancer over time.
12 .What was the shortcoming of the previous way to study cells
A .Generating a set of identical results.
B .Failing to research individual cells accurately.
C .Requiring scientists to study bananas directly.
D .Focusing on separating cells from living organisms...
13 .What can we learn about single-cell analysis from paragraph 2
A .It allows learning about creatures’ relationships.
B .It is a simple method for researching people’s cells.
C .It helps scientists know creatures more thoroughly.
D .It mainly focuses on studying mixed cell samples.
14 .What do the accounts in the last three paragraphs imply
A .Doctors will find a treatment for cancers soon.
B .Many scientists began to focus on studying cells.
C .There are many challenges ofthe new techniques.
D .The new techniques have great application potential.
15 .Which can be the best title for the text
A .The Previous Research into Human Cells
B .A Major Breakthrough in Cancer Research
C .Single-Cell Analysis: A Biological Revolution

After seeing a sci-fi film, which tells the story of a young boy boarding an express train on Christmas Eve to visit Santa Claus at the North Pole, 4-year-old John had been asking about going on a train. Then his mother Elaine booked them a ride on one of those Polar Express-themed trains on Christmas Eve. She hoped he would be innocent enough to enjoy the whole experience.
When they boarded the train, he kept asking questions about how fast they would go, how far they would travel, whether they were really going to the North Pole, how long it would take to get there, and whether time would slow down like in the film.
As they rolled along in the train, John asked again, “When are we going to go fast ” Elaine knew what he meant. He often talked about how fast the train moved in that film, and Elaine
imagined that he pictured them doing the same. He wanted to fly through time, feel the wind on his face, and see the world rush by and change from mountains to snow to frozen water and ice caps like the character in the film.
“This is as fast as it goes,” Elaine said. He frowned, and she added, “It’s because there are so many small kids here who would be scared to go faster.” He eyed other kids around. “They’ll be okay,” he promised.
Then, a conductor came down the aisle (过道), and John flagged him down. “Can this train go faster like in the film ” he asked. “Like fifty miles an hour, or maybe five hundred ”
The conductor, with a knowing smile, said, “I’m going to see what we can do. I’ll go ask
the engineer.” John smiled, content with himself. The conductor knew it was impossible to speed up as the boy liked, but they wouldn’t destroy the little boy’s fancy. They decided to stage another edition of the experience. Then, he walked away, offering Elaine a private smile.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 个左右;
After waiting for minutes, John found the train slowed down and even stopped instead of going faster,

根据文章划线词后文的内容“meaning that there is more water in the soil for corn to absorb and transpire, which adds more water vapor to the air and further fuels warming.(意味着土壤中有更多水分供玉米吸收和蒸腾,从而向空气中添加更多水汽,进一步加剧升
When the air is dry, you sweat and the evaporation cools you off,” says Mohler. “But that doesn’t work as well in humid conditions, because there is so much
moisture in the atmosphere already. That’s why you feel that much more miserable when it’s
humid as well as hot.”(Mohler 解释道:“空气干燥时,人体通过出汗和汗液蒸发实现降温。
Until recently, when scientists studied cells from people and animals, they often had to examine large samples, producing an average of results from many
kinds of cells. The process was like trying to learn about bananas by studying a smoothie—a drink made from different types of fruit.(直到最近,科学家在研究人和动物的细胞时,通常还不得不检测大量样本,从多种细胞类型中得出一个平均化结果。
根据第二段“Scientists can study genetic material in each cell and learn about the relationships between cells. The result, notes the journal Science, is that researchers can follow the development of people and other organisms in incredible detail.(科学家可以研究每个细胞中
Francis Collins, who is the former director of the National Institutes of Health, recently noted the importance of such techniques for understanding human
beings. “Single-cell analysis is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of our biology and
、文章第四段“Jonathan Weissman is a stem cell biologist at the University of California San Francisco. He notes that single-cell analysis lets scientists ask much more detailed, exacting questions than
they could in the past.(加州大学旧金山分校的干细胞生物学家 Jonathan Weissman 指出,单细胞分析让科学家能够提出比过去更详细、更精确的问题。)”和文章第五段“Nicholas Navin is a professor from the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He uses single-cell DNA studies to discover
patterns of mutations in cells of a cancerous tumor. These studies let Navin recreate when and
where those mutations appeared as the tumor developed. That information helps him identify cells that contain combinations of mutations that make them the deadliest.(MD 安德森癌症中心的
In recent years, scientists have developed methods that let them directly study the activity of cells and the genetic structure of individual cells. Single-cell
analysis is the term for a group of techniques that scientists have developed for isolating or

16.上文“It’s easy to lose our critical thinking around the holidays. (节日期间,我们很容易失去批判性思维)”指出节日期间人们警惕性下降。F 选项“So there are a lot more opportunities for scammers to steal from us (因此,骗子有更多的机会从我们这里行骗)”通过“So”引出上文现象的必然结果:警惕性降低为骗子创造了更多可乘之机。
17.小标题“Watch out for fake retail (零售) ads on social media (警惕社交媒体上的虚假零售广告)”点明了本段主题。D 选项“Scammers open stores online for a limited period of time (骗子会开设限时经营的网店)”紧接标题,具体说明了这种骗局的一种常见操作手法——开设短期网店,这与下文中描述的“The store might disappear shortly after you’ve placed your order. (店铺可能在你下单后不久就消失)”完全吻合,并为下文的防范建议(搜索商家信息)提供了背景。故选 D 项。
18 .上文“...know that it is possible for scammers to get the gift card number and PIN before you buy it in the store. (要知道,骗子有可能在你从商店购买礼品卡之前就获取卡号和密码)”揭示了礼品卡可能被预先盗取信息的风险。E 选项“If you add money onto it, they are able to
19 .下文“It’s more common to receive unexpected packages around the holidays, and scammers will use that to their advantage. They’ll send out fake messages saying they’re from a shipping
company and that there’s a problem with your account. If so, reach out separately to the
company’s customer service line and confirm that a package is indeed coming your way.(假日期间收到意外包裹的情况较为常见,而诈骗分子正利用这一点实施骗局。
20 .上文“Check any new travel website. (检查任何新的旅游网站)”给出了防范虚假旅游优惠的一条建议。G 选项“If possible, stick to vendors you have a preexisting relationship with (如果可能,坚持选择你已有合作关系的供应商)”顺承上文,在“检查新网站”的基础上,提出了一个更根本、更安全的补充建议: 优先选择熟悉的、已建立信任关系的供应商。这为上文建议提供了更深层次的解决方案,逻辑上递进。故选 G 项。

47 . After waiting for minutes, John found the train slowed down and even stopped instead of going faster. His little face was clouded with confusion and disappointment. Elaine gently
squeezed his hand, whispering, “Maybe they need to check something before speeding up.” Just
then, the conductor returned, knelt beside him and whispered, “We need a boy to help the
repairman — could you help ” John’s eyes brightened, nodding excitedly. Outside, snow began to fall softly, dusting the pine trees along the tracks. John pressed his nose against the cold glass,
watching as a figure in a repairman’s uniform approached.
When John saw the “repairman” waiting outside the train, his jaw dropped. The man wore a red cap pulled low, but as he looked up and waved, John recognized Santa Claus! The
“repairman” climbed aboard, declaring that the train needed “a sprinkle of Christmas magic” to go faster. He handed John a small, shiny bell, saying it held the speed-up secret. As the train started
moving again, John shook the bell, and amazingly, the snowy scenery outside seemed to blur into a whirl of white and green, just like in the film — all in his joyful imagination.
