Learning a foreign language is not just for educational purpose. Instead, it can satisfy our personal needs.

You will be able to understand others by learning a foreign language. It can also make yourself understood When travelling in a foreign country.

Suppose you move to a foreign country but don’t speak the language. Think about why and how you learn a new language.
You are not learning the language just for (education / educational) purpose. Instead, you learn it to satisfy your (person / personal) needs. You should be able to understand others and make yourself understood. when, while, after, before, as soon as, till, until是引导时间状语从句的从属连词。时间状语从句表示主句动作发生的时间。

1. when 当……的时候;正在那个时候
e.g. When he receives the letter, he’ll tell us.
We were watching TV, when suddenly the light went out.
2. while 当……时 表示主句、从句的动作同时发生,while后引导的状语从句的动
词必须是延续性动词,不能是短暂性动词,有时含有对比的含义。
e.g. He visited a lot of places while he was travelling.
I was doing my homework while my brother was playing games.

3. after/before after表示 “在……之后”;before表示 “在……之前”。
e.g. What are you going to do after you finish college

4. as soon as表示 “一……就……”。
e.g. He will go with you as soon as he finishes his work.

5. till / until
till / until 意为 “直到……”。都可以作连词,连接时间状语从句;也可以作介词,与其他词构成介词短语,在句中作状语。till和until的语义是相同的,但till主要用在口语当中。在强调句型“It ... not until ... that ...”中不用till.
e.g. We walked and walked until/till it was dark. (主句是肯定式,直到……才停止)
We didn’t begin walking till / until it was dark. (主句是否定式,直到……才开始)
Tom will wait till / until his father comes back. (主将从现)
Tom won’t leave here till /until his father comes back. (主将从现)
