What advice does Ms White give Summarise Ms White’s advice using the following structure: Ms White gives Tony three pieces of advice. First, ...Then, ... He should remember that…
What qualities should Tony have as a team leader
If you were Tony, what would you do after reading Ms White’s email
Which piece of advice do you find most helpful to you
Activity 7: Think and share
If I were Tony, I would first go to talk to Lisa calmly. I’d ask her why she wants to play Snow White and discuss her strengths and weaknesses. Then, I would suggest that Lisa and Mary both try the roles of Snow White and the queen, and organize a team vote to pick the most suitable person for each role. I would also remember to ask the whole team for their opinions when I face problems later, instead of trying to handle everything alone.
I think the most helpful advice is that a team leader doesn’t have to deal with all the problems alone. It reminds me that teamwork is not just about working together on tasks, but also about sharing difficulties and asking for help from the team. This makes me realize that a good leader trusts their team and uses everyone’s ideas, which is far more effective than making decisions by myself.
Activity 8: Act and comment
Work in groups of four and act out Tony’s problem and what Tony does to solve the problem according to Ms White’s advice.
In this class, we learned about Tony’s problem of giving out the role of the princess. Now, you‘re in Tony’s team. Work in groups of four. First, work together to choose your leader, whose name is Tony. Then decide the other roles: Lisa and two team members. Next, act out Tony’s problem and what Tony does to solve the problem according to Ms White’s advice.

Simon shouldn’t be late for the meeting. He should be on time.
Captain Oliver should pass the ball to others in the match. He doesn’t have to keep the ball all the time.
Donna should be open to others’ questions in the team. She doesn’t have to agree with everything, but she should listen to other people’s ideas.

Work in pairs. Discuss the qualities of a good leader. Use the words and expressions from the reading passage and the Useful expressions to help you.
Integrity
Communication
Skills
When the class project failed, the leader took responsibility and helped the team find solutions instead of blaming others.
The leader always tells the truth to the team, even if it means admitting a mistake.
The leader listens carefully to every team member’s suggestions and clearly explains the team’s goals.
Activity 6: Write and share
Share your opinions with the whole class.
A good team leader should have responsibility. For example, when the team project faced a setback, the leader didn’t blame others but took responsibility for the mistakes and led the team to find solutions.
I agree with you. I also think integrity is important. Take our monitor as an example, he always keeps his promises to the class. If he says he’ll help with the class activity, he never breaks his word.
I don’t think so. I think effective communication is more crucial. For example, a good leader listens carefully to every team member’s opinions and clearly explains the team’s goals, so everyone knows what to do.
Activity 6: Write and share
Vote on the best presentation according to the criteria.
1. Do a survey about what your classmates think of our school and describe their comments with the expressions and modal verbs that you have learnt. (Required)

China’s mountaineering history
Activity 3: Read and complete
Read the passage again and complete the Thinking Map about the story.
At noon on 24 May 1960
Near the top of the Second Step (a thirty-metre-high wall of rock) on Mount Qomolangma, the “roof of the world”
Liu Lianman, Qu Yinhua, Gong Bu, Wang Fuzhou (the four Chinese mountaineers)
The Chinese mountaineering team attempted to climb the last few metres of the Second Step of Mount Qomolangma, overcame extreme challenges through teamwork, and eventually reached the summit, making history.
Four climbers
right within reach
Liu Lianman tried to lead the way four times but fell back into the snow each time; the thin air drained his strength.
He chose to be a “human ladder”, lowering his body to let Qu Yinhua stand on his shoulders and helping Qu climb to the top of the Second Step.
Selflessness: Putting the team’s success above his own ability to proceed.
Liu Lianman was too exhausted to continue; the team had no oxygen left, making the climb extremely dangerous.
The team gave all their oxygen to Liu Lianman (knowing he needed it), then Wang Fuzhou and Gong Bu continued climbing with a rope, pushing through the cold and darkness.
Mutual support and sacrifice: Prioritizing the team’s goal over individual safety and comfort.
They reached the top of Mount Qomolangma at 4:20 am on 25 May, becoming the first Chinese to do so and the first to climb the North Ridge without using oxygen.
He did not reach the summit, but by acting as a “human ladder” and sacrificing his own chance, he shouldered his team into China’s mountaineering history.

Did they succeed in the end

A Story About a Great Team: The Chinese Women’s Volleyball Team
It was August 2016, and the Maracan zinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was packed with cheering fans. The Chinese Women’s National Volleyball Team was about to play in the final of the Olympic Games.
They had faced tough challenges on their way to the final. Some players were injured, and they had lost important matches earlier in the tournament. But they never lost hope.
In the final against Serbia, the Chinese team lost the first set. It looked like they might be defeated. But then, something amazing happened. The players supported each other, communicated clearly, and fought for every point. They won the next three sets in a row, with incredible skill and teamwork.
When the final point was scored, the whole team fell to the floor, crying tears of joy. They had won the Olympic gold medal, 12 years after their last victory in Athens.
This team is great because they showed the world what can be achieved when people work together. They had perseverance, courage, and a deep love for their country. Their "women’s volleyball spirit" continues to inspire people all over China and beyond.
