The traditional dim sum eaten on Lantern Festival is called “yuanxiao” (rice glue ball) or commonly called “tangyuan”. The name itself conveys the meaning of family reunion and happiness. Yuanxiao has its appearance made into a ball shape and white sugar, sweetened bean paste, sesame seeds as fillings. Besides, walnut meat, nuts, and even meat can be used as the stuffing as well. Besides boiling, yuanxiao can also be cooked by deep-frying or steaming.
元宵节的传统点心名叫 “元宵”（也叫汤圆）。单是这个名字，就蕴含着阖家团圆、幸福美满的寓意。元宵外形圆润饱满，馅料有白糖、豆沙、芝麻等，此外，核桃仁、坚果仁，甚至肉馅也可作为元宵馅料。元宵的做法除了水煮，还可以油炸或蒸制。

Displaying and admiring lanterns is the most iconic activity of the festival. In ancient times, people lit lanterns to pray for good fortune and ward off evil spirits. Today, cities and towns decorate streets, parks, and temples with colorful lanterns of various shapes—animals, flowers, and mythical figures. Some places also hold lantern riddle events, where riddles are written on lanterns for people to guess, adding fun and intellectual charm to the celebration.
