A: I once had a problem with my friends.
B: What happened
A: They love fashionable expensive shoes, but I just wear comfortable old ones. They kept saying I should buy new shoes like theirs. It made me feel terrible!
B: How did you solve the problem
A: It was not easy. At the beginning, I almost bought new shoes, but I didn’t have enough money. Then I talked to my dad. He said, “Be honest with your friends.” So I bravely told them I wasn’t interested in shoes. Now everything is fine. I have learnt that being honest helps. Never just follow others!

give up 既可用作不及物短语动词,又可用作及物短语动词。
用作及物短语动词时,后面接名词、代词或v.-ing形式作宾语。如果其宾语是名词,那么名词可以放在give和up之间,也可以放在up之后;如果其宾语是代词,那么代词只能放在give和up之间。

her husband at home.
