What makes a great team？
1. The top of Mount Qomolangma seemed right within reach.
珠穆朗玛峰顶似乎近在咫尺。
with reach (of sb.) 在(某人)伸手可及的地方
e.g. Keep a glass of water within your reach.
在你的手边放一杯水。
They put the water within reach of the children.

2. The thin air took his strength away.
稀薄的空气耗尽了他的体力。
take sb./ sth. away 拿走，带走；使消失
e.g. It helps take some of the pain away.
它有助于减轻一些疼痛。
There is a book on the floor. Please take it away.
地板上有一本书，请把它拿走。
3. He lowered his body and let Qu Yinhua stand on his shoulders.
他蹲下身体，让屈银华站在他的肩膀上。
lower v. 把(某物)移低，降下
e.g. He lowered himself carefully down from the top of the wall.他小心翼翼地从墙头上下来。
lower 是形容词low (低的)的比较级。
4. Every second was painful, but Liu stood still.
每一秒都痛苦难当，但刘(连满)始终稳稳站立着。
painful adj. 令人痛苦的
在句中作定语或表语。它由名词pain加形容词后缀-ful构成。
e.g. It was a difficult and painful operation.
这是一次艰难而痛苦的手术。
He sobbed as he recalled the painful memory.
回想起那段痛苦的往事﹐他啜泣起来。
由名词加后缀-ful构成的形容词还有：
useful 有用的 helpful 有帮助的
beautiful 美丽的 careful 小心的，认真的
hopeful 充满希望的 wonderful 绝妙的
successful 成功的 peaceful 和平的
5. But Liu was too tired to keep going.
然而，刘(连满)已经筋疲力竭，无法继续前进。
too…to…太……以至于不能……
too是副词，后跟形容词或副词，to是动词不定式符号，后跟动词原形。该短语在形式上是肯定结构，但是表达的是否定意义。
e.g. I was too busy to go to the party last night.
昨晚我太忙了，无法参加聚会。
有时不定式前可以带一个由介词for引出的逻辑主语。
e.g. The box is too heavy for me to carry.
这个箱子对我来说太重了，我搬不动。
too…to…可与so…that…(that从句为否定句)或not …enough to…进行转换。
e.g. This shirt is too small for me to wear.
= This shirt is so small that I can’t wear.
=This shirt is not big enough for me to wear.
这个箱子对我来说太重了，我搬不动。

carry on 在不同的情景中有不同的意思，此处为“继续走；继续行进”。
e.g. Carry straight on until you get to the traffic lights.
一直走到红绿灯那里。(表示“继续走，继续行进”)
Sheen carried on his baking business until he retired.
Sheen退休半一直做烘焙生意。(表示“从事某事”)
carry on with 把……继续进行下去，继续干 ，相当于go on with。
carry on doing sth. 继续做某事；坚持做某事
e.g. The doctor told her to carry on with the treatment.
医生让她继续治疗。
I will go to England to carry on my study.
我要去英国继续学业。
The farmers carried on working in the field even though it was very hot.尽管天气很热，农民们还是继续在田里干活。
7. It was dangerous to climb without oxygen, but they knew Liu needed it.
无氧攀登极其危险，但他们深知刘(连满)更需要氧气支持。
It + be +adj. + to do sth. 某事做起来具有某种性质或特点。其中的adj.指代形容词，用来描述动作或状态的特点。
e.g. It is important to study every day.
每天学习很重要。
It is enjoyable to spend some time with friends.
和朋友一起相聚很愉快。
It is + adj. + for / of ... + to do sth.句型是在It is + adj. + to do sth.基础上的变形。for / of后通常接表示人的名词或代词，使谈论的对象明确、具体。
e.g. It is impossible for Sam to cook a big dinner for us.
Sam不可能为我们做一顿丰盛的晚餐。
It is kind of you to help me with my homework.
你帮我辅导作业，真是太好了。
在It is + adj. + for / of ... + to do sth.句型中，介词for和of的使用要看其前面的形容词描述的对象是什么：
☆当形容词描述的是动词不定式所指内容的性质时，通常用介词for。
☆当形容词描述的是介词后的sb.的性格、品质、特点等时，通常用介词of。
e.g. It is meaningful for us to help those poor children.
帮助那些贫困的孩子对我们来说很有意义。
It is really unlucky for us to camp in such bad weather.
在这么糟糕的天气里露营，我们真的很不走运。
It is rude of you to shout at the old people.
你对老人大喊大叫，真是太粗鲁了。
It is clever of you to answer the question correctly.
你能正确回答这个问题，真聪明。
【语境应用】翻译句子。
1) 对这个男孩来说，搬这个重箱子很困难。

effort n. 努力。既可用作可数名词，也可用作不可数名词。
with (an) effort 费力地；使劲地
put much effort into ... 对……付出很多努力
n. 艰难的尝试；试图；尽力。作可数名词。
make every effort 尽一切努力
make an effort / efforts 作出努力
e.g. Tom’s efforts to stop smoking haven’t been very successful. 汤姆戒烟的努力不太成功。
You should put more effort into your work.
你应该更加努力地工作。
Please make an effort to be polite.请尽量礼貌些。
【语境应用】根据汉语意思完成英语句子。

9. What’s more, no one had done so without using oxygen!
更令人惊叹的是，此前从未有人实现过无氧登顶。
what’s more 而且，更重要的是，在句中常用作插入语。表示递进，既可以放在句首，也可以放在句中，其后要用逗号与句子其他成分隔开。
e.g. She learns quickly, and what’s more, she remembers what she has learned.
她学得很快，而且所学的全都记得。
10. He did not reach the top, but he shouldered his team into China’s mountaineering history.
他虽未登项，却用自己的力量托起整个团队，让他们的壮举载入中国登山史册。
shoulder v. 承担，负担；扛；挑；掮 n. 肩膀
e.g. They shouldered the costs of the repairs.
他们承担了这笔修理费用。
They shouldered the boat and took it down to the river.他们把船扛在肩上抬到河里。
His shoulders were broad and powerful.
