“五一”国际劳动节(International Workers' Day;International Labour Day;May Day),是世界上80多个国家的全国性节日、全世界劳动人民团结战斗的节日,时间为5月1日(某些国家为其他时间,如美国、加拿大)。
“五一”国际劳动节是工人阶级奋斗争取来的。随着资本主义进入垄断阶段,工人每天被迫进行大量的劳动,为了维护自己的权利,工人们决定斗争。1886年,美国芝加哥等城市的35万工人举行大罢工和游行示威,要求实行8小时工作制、改善劳动条件,美国当局迫于国际舆论和社会压力,宣布实施8小时工作制。为了纪念这次斗争,1889年7月,第二国际在巴黎举行的代表大会将5月1日确立为“五一”国际劳动节。

中国:每年五一劳动节,党和政府都会对有突出贡献的劳动者进行表彰。全国各地欢庆,人们聚集在公园、剧院、广场,参加各种庆祝集会或文体娱乐活动,如劳动竞赛、运动会、联欢晚会等。 对于很多人来说,“五一”国际劳动节也是出游的好时机。

俄罗斯:“五一”这天,俄罗斯举行各种庆祝活动及群众性游行。游行队伍穿过城市的主要街道、广场,最后在宽阔的中心广场举行大型集会和庆典。对于俄罗斯普通老百姓来说,劳动节已经变成放松心情的假期,俄罗斯劳动节全国放假3天,每年全国共有上千个城市举行“五一”国际劳动节庆祝活动,参与者达数百万人。

德国:相传在很久以前的“五一”前夜,“女巫”们在布罗肯山以及欧洲各地的山丘上通宵跳舞,等待象征男性、长着犄角的神出现。德国人在这一夜载歌载舞的传统流传至今,成为一种民俗。5月1日当天,德国很多地方都会立“五月柱”,是未婚男青年立的桦树干,未婚女青年们可以把自己的爱情心愿写好挂上去,或者把树装饰起来,祈望能得到心上人的喜爱。在德国传统里,“五月柱”不仅与爱情有关,还象征丰收和生命力,所以人们有在5月1日到“五月柱”下面围着圈跳舞吃香肠喝啤酒祈祷丰收的习俗。

法国:在法国,5月1日本身就是传统的罢工日,因此这一天法国各行各业的工人都会走上街头,要求改善自己的工资待遇。 此外,“五一”国际劳动节又被称为铃兰节。这一天,每个人都要买上几束铃兰花送给自己、爱人和朋友。法国人认为铃兰会让爱神眷顾、会让人走运。
