Draw mind maps in pairs. Think about the tree-planting process, benefits and the connection between weather and the project.
Mind mapping is a great way to organise information clearly. Now, work in pairs to draw a mind map. List the steps for planting a tree, benefits of planting trees, and the connection between weather and the tree-planting project in the mind map. When creating your mind map, remember that visual elements like colours and symbols can help clearly separate different branches and make your mind map easier to read and understand.

Lesson 2 It’s getting warmer!
Activity 1: Decode and answer
Make a simple weather description.
Look at the blackboard! What am I drawing
Yes! We have the sun, a little insect, and yellow flowers. But do you know what they mean Let’s play a Spring Codebreaking game!
First, the sun! What’s the weather like in spring
Yes! War! So “W” stands for “warm”. It is getting warmer and warmer in spring!
Next, the little insect! Do you know a Chinese solar term-Jingzhe Jingzhe means “ awakening of insects”! Sothis insect is about Jingzhe. And “I” stands for...
Great! Insects! Little bugs wake up in spring!
Last, the yellow flowers! Wang Mei saw them on her way to school-winter jasmine! They are special flowers in spring. We also call them “the welcoming-spring flowers”. So “ F stands for flowers! Flowers bloom in spring!
Wow! We broke the code: W-warm, I-insects (Jingzhe), F flowers ( winter jasmine). These are all in Wang Mei’s email! She writes to Jenny about spring in China-warm weather. Jingzhe and winter jasmine.
Do you like spring and why
Think back to our Spring Code-breaking game. Maybe you love spring because it's warm, just like the “W” we decoded. Or perhaps you're fascinated by how Jingzhe wakes up the insects, and that's why you like it! As for the weather, we know spring brings warmth. Let’s read Wang Mei's email to find more “spring codes” and find out more ways to talk about spring.
Read the questions and give your answers.
A Do you like spring why
B What’s the weather like in spring
Yes, I like spring very much. Because the weather becomes warm and gentle, and all kinds of flowers and trees start to bloom and turn green. It’s a perfect time to go hiking, have picnics, or just enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery outside.
In spring, the weather is usually warm and mild, but it can be a bit windy sometimes. There are often light, refreshing rains that help plants grow. The temperature rises slowly, and the days get longer and sunnier, making it feel lively and full of energy.
