When cycling, do you always wear a helmet Are there times when you take shortcuts and ignore traffic rules When taking a car, do you fasten your seat belts in a timely manner Do you remind your family members to fasten their seat belts
Activity 4: Think and write
Write down your reflections about your own behaviour when cycling, walking on the road, or taking a car, including both good safety behaviour and behaviour that need improvement.
I have some good safety behaviours in my daily life. When I take a car, I always fasten my seat belt at once. I also remind my parents to wear seat belts. When I walk on the road, I follow the traffic rules and never run on the street. I look left and right carefully before crossing the road.
However, I also have some bad behaviour that needs improvement. When I ride a bike, I don’t always wear my helmet. Sometimes I am in a hurry and take shortcuts, and I even ignore the traffic rules occasionally. I know it’s very dangerous.
From the passage, I learn that safety is the most important thing. I will wear my helmet when cycling, obey all traffic rules all the time, and keep safe in every situation.
Activity 5: Talk and present
Work in groups. Each group needs to expand on the importance of safety protection in other occasions.
We know that we should wear helmets while riding a bicycle and wear seat belts while riding in vehicles. After class, please show the safety knowledge to your family and friends.
Hello everyone. Today we will talk about the importance of safety protection.
From the story, we know the bicycle helmet saved the writer’s life. It tells us safety protection is very important.
In sports games, such as football and basketball, we should wear protective gear like knee pads and helmets. They can protect our bodies from getting hurt. When we take cars or buses, we must fasten seat belts. Seat belts can keep us safe in a car accident. When we walk or ride bikes on the road, we must follow traffic rules and wear helmets when cycling.
Safety comes first. We should learn more safety knowledge, protect ourselves, and tell our family and friends about the importance of safety.
Activity 6: Summarise
Review the main content of the passage in Part 2. Recap the structure and usage of the past continuous tense and describe the importance of safety behaviour in daily life.
结构:was/were + 动词 –ing
用法:描述过去某一时刻/某一段时间正在进行的动作
例句:I was riding my bicycle.
My hand and leg were bleeding.
Activity 6: Summarise
Review the main content of the passage in Part 2. Recap the structure and usage of the past continuous tense and describe the importance of safety behaviour in daily life.
Safety is the most important thing in our daily life. Good safety habits can protect us from danger and accidents. When we ride bikes, we must wear helmets to protect our heads. When we take cars, we should fasten seat belts at once. When we walk or play outside, we must follow traffic rules and stay away from dangerous places. If we always keep safety in mind and obey the rules, we can keep ourselves safe and healthy. Safety comes first, and we should never be careless about our safety.
1. Finish the self-check on the learning sheet. (Required)
2. Retell the story with the help of the mind map on the blackboard. (Required)

Lesson 1 Be careful!
Activity 1: Look and answer
Hello, boys and girls. Look! Here is a picture in our lesson today. Can you answer these two questions
Look at the picture and answer the following two questions.
What is Danny doing
What could happen to Danny
Activity 2: Look and say
Boys and girls, here is a group of pictures about our lesson on the learning sheet. Look at the first one. Can you guess where they are and what the students are doing
Look at the pictures and describe them.
Actually, they are at the art classroom, and they are decorating it. It means they will make the classroom more beautiful by adding something colourful or attractive. So in Chinese, “decorate” means “to make something look more attractive by putting things on it”.
In the second picture , this boy finds a yellow star. Isn’t it beautiful And he wants to hang it from the ceiling. The ceiling means the upper surface of a room. Do you think he needs any tools
Yes, he may need a ladder to reach the ceiling. And he also needs “ tape” to put up the star. But he thinks he is tall enough so he doesn’t need a ladder. However, he is wrong. So he climbs a chair just like Danny.
What happened to him in the third picture He falls off the chair and “lies” on the floor. And what’s more, he lands on top of a student. What may happen to them
Yes, they may break their arms or legs. If we were there ,what should we do Should we call 120 Or we can also say “call an ambulance”. And how can we check if they break their arms or legs
We can take the two students to take an X-ray. Even if they didn’t hurt, l think it’s necessary to have an examination just in case. To avoid the bad result they may face, we have to take them to hospital.
Activity 3: Listen and answer
Listen to the conversation and answer the questions.
A What are the students doing
B What does Danny climb onto
C Who is Jenny going to call
D What lesson do you think Danny learned from this accident
They are decorating the art classroom.
He climbs onto Mr Green’s chair.
She is going to call Brian’s mother.
It’s dangerous to climb on chairs casually. We should keep safe and use safe tools (like ladders) when we can’t reach things. We must be careful in the classroom.
Activity 3: Listen and answer
Listen to the conversation again and fill in the blanks.

Activity 4: Read and retell
Retell the conversation in Part 2 according to the three processes of “An accident in the art classroom” in Part 3.
Activity 5: Show and summarize
Write down your own structure about retelling the accident in Part 2. It must contain the three processes. And you can add some details into each part.
Who can come to the front and describe the accident of our lesson
decorate the art classroom
hang a yellow star from the ceiling
climb onto Mr Green’s chair
fall off the chair
land on Brian and hurt his arm
call Brian’s mother
take Brian to the hospital for an X-ray
Activity 5: Show and summarize
Write down your own structure about retelling the accident in Part 2. It must contain the three processes. And you can add some details into each part.
So at the beginning of the description, we can introduce the background of the accident, like what people there are doing before the accident happens. Then we can describe what leads to the result. And at last, or in the end, we should figure out what the result is and how they deal with the accident.
The students were decorating the art classroom. Danny wanted to hang a yellow star from the ceiling.
Danny thought he was tall enough, so he refused to use the ladder and climbed onto Mr Green’s chair.
Danny couldn’t reach the ceiling well and fell off the chair. Brian tried to save Danny, but Danny landed on top of him.
Brian cried for help weakly because his arm was badly hurt.
Mr Green found them and checked their injuries. Jenny wanted to call an ambulance, but Brian refused.
Mr Green asked Jenny to call Brian’s mother and took Brian to the hospital for an X-ray.
What’s more, to make our description clearer, we can add more real details. For example, why did Danny want to climb onto the chair instead of using the ladder Or why did Mr Green ask Jenny to call Brain’s mother
Activity 6: Discuss and create
Work in groups to discuss how we can keep safe in the classroom. Try to write down some sentences.
Boys and girls, after today’s learning we know that it is dangerous to climb onto a chair. And what other safety tips do you know We should think more about how to keep safe in the classroom.
Don’t climb on chairs or desks in the classroom
Don’t run or push when we are in the classroom
Ask teachers for help when we can’t reach high things
Use all the school tools carefully and safely
1. Finish the self-check on the learning sheet. (Required)
2. Practise retelling the conversation in Part 2 with your partner. (Required)
