1. in low spirits 情绪低落
low作形容词,意为“低的;矮的;少的”,可以形容高度、数值、数量、声音、温度等。它的比较级是lower,最高级是lowest。反义词为high。

The price of this book is very low. 这本书的价格很低。
Please keep your voice low in the library. 在图书馆请小声说话。

You Can’t Win Them All
When the bell rang, Matt entered the classroom with a heavy heart. “Hey, Matt,” his best friend Tom greeted him. He and Tom were in the school’s basketball team. “Why the long face Are you still feeling blue about Saturday night’s game ” Tom asked.
“Of course I am,” Matt said quietly. He didn’t dare to look at Tom as he spoke. “I’m really sorry about letting everybody down. The other team got those points because of me.”

“Don’t be too hard on yourself!” Tom said. “Although you pushed their player, it was just an accident. Everyone knows that!”
Tom was a good friend. But Matt knew the referee didn’t share Tom’s opinion. When the referee saw Matt push another player, he gave the other team two free throws. Matt was as shocked as anyone else when the accident happened, but it was too late. He couldn’t take it back.

相同点 a bit / a little 修饰形容词或副词原级、比较级,意为“有点儿;稍微”

a little 可直接修饰不可数名词。not a little意为“非常;很”

How do you feel just when you are in front of people Usually, your heart beats very fast and you have an unusual feeling in your stomach, don’t you It’s almost like butterflies (蝴蝶) flying in your stomach. This feeling is expressed in the idiom “have butterflies in your stomach”. It means being so nervous that you feel like there are butterflies dancing in your stomach.
Americans often use this idiom to describe how they are feeling when they walk onto a stage (舞台) and make an important speech or perform in front of people. Actors also say they have butterflies in their stomachs before they see their movies on the theater screen. They are so nervous and excited at he same time that their hearts are beating very fast and there seem to be many butterflies in their stomachs. Before students take a big test, they describe their feelings with this idiom.
