过去进行时
1. 概念
表示过去某一时刻或某一段时间正在进行或发生的动作
At 8 o’clock last night, I was watching TV. 昨晚 8 点，我正在看电视。
They were building the house last month. 上个月他们一直在盖房子。

2. 句型
(1) 肯定句：主语+was/were+doing+其他. 如：The girl was shopping when I saw her. 我看见那个女孩的时候，她正在购物。
(2) 否定句：主语+was/were+not+doing+其他. 如：He was not working at that time. 那时他没有在工作。

(3) 一般疑问句：Was/Were+主语+doing+ 其他 如：—Were you playing basketball then 那个时候你在打篮球吗？—Yes, I was. / No, I wasn’t. 是的，我在(打篮球)。 / 不，我没有(打篮球)。

3. 用法
(1) 表示过去某一段时间内正在进行的动作
(2) 表示过去某一时刻正在进行或发生的动作，与过去某一特定的时间状语连用 (at this time yesterday, then ...)

(3) 表示过去某个动作发生时，另一个动作正在进行，持续时间长的动作用过去进行时，常用在while引导的时间状语从句中
While my mother was cooking, I was doing my homework. 妈妈做饭的时候，我正在写作业。

4. 与一般过去时的区别
过去进行时强调某一动作在过去某一时刻或某段时间内正在进行；一般过去时表示在过去发生的动作，强调动作已经完成
When the teacher came in, we were talking. 老师进来时，我们正在说话。
When the teacher came in, we stopped talking. 老师进来时，我们停止了说话。
