They don’t like it when others ask them about their age, their family, whether they are married, or how much money they make. Food and culture, however, are safe conversation topics.

hear from意为“得到……的消息”。
(1) hear from sb用来表达得到某人的信件、 电子邮件、电话等形式传达的消息。
She heard from her brother last week. 她上周得到了她的哥哥的消息。
(2) hear from sb about sth 用来表示得到某人关于某事的消息。
I heard from my teacher about the school trip. 我得到了我的老师关于学校旅行的消息。

【辨析】on time与in time

in time 意为“及时；来得及”，强调在规定的时间范围之内完成某事，避免延误或错过某个时机
