Memorial Day of Learning from Lei Feng
Lei Feng Day is celebrated on March 5 every year in China. It was officially established to memorize Lei Feng, a young soldier who was well-known for his selflessness and willingness to help others. On March 5, 1963, Chairman Mao Zedong called on the whole nation to “Learn from Lei Feng”. Since then, this day has become a special occasion to encourage people, especially young students, to carry forward his noble spirit and do more voluntary work in daily life.
我国每年 3 月 5 日为学雷锋纪念日。这一节日正式设立，是为了纪念雷锋 —— 一位以无私奉献、乐于助人闻名的年轻战士。1963 年 3 月 5 日，毛泽东主席号召全国人民 “向雷锋同志学习”。从此，这一天成为鼓励人们、尤其是青少年学生传承雷锋高尚精神、在日常生活中多参与志愿活动的重要日子。

Lei Feng, a symbol of selflessness and dedication in China, devoted his short life to helping others without seeking rewards. His spirit, embodied in countless small daily deeds, has inspired generations of Chinese people to follow his example.
The core of Lei Feng’s spirit lies in wholehearted service to people and the “screw spirit” of being faithful to one’s duty. For us senior high school students, it doesn’t require doing something extraordinary. Instead, it’s lending a hand to a classmate stuck in tough problems, picking up litter scattered on campus, or volunteering to help the elderly in the neighborhood with daily chores.
