The air was fresh, with green trees everywhere and clear rivers running through the city. There were lots of farmlands and open spaces, but only a few factories, so there was almost no pollution. People mainly made a living by farming and lived in low, small houses. In their free time, they just listened to the radio or watched TV. If they wanted to go out, they could only walk or ride bikes. Also, some families were too poor to send their children to get better education, and few kids learned new things outside school. Everything has changed a lot over the years. Now, tall modern buildings and new flats are everywhere. People have more jobs, like working in high-tech companies or big shopping malls. Their free time is more colourful too. They can go to cinemas, gyms or travel around the country. There are many kinds of transport, such as buses, subways and taxis, and most families have their own cars, so it’s easy to go anywhere. However, the environment isn’t as good as before. Some rivers are polluted, and the air is sometimes foggy because of more factories and cars. I think we should keep a balance between high-tech development and environmental protection. Changzhou is becoming more modern, and I believe if we all work together to protect it, our hometown will be both rich and beautiful in the future.(共19张PPT)

Changzhou: From Canal Town to Modern City
Changzhou, a historic city along the ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, has changed a lot. Once known as an industrial town, now it has transformed into a modern city.
In the past, people lived in old houses. Now, they live in new and modern flats. The city also has many beautiful parks.
Transport is different too. Before, bicycles were common. Now, we have a new subway, good buses and wide roads. Many families have cars.
Long ago, young people often left the city to work. But today, many come back. They work in new jobs, like making new energy cars. They bring new ideas.
Because of the government and the hard work of its people, Changzhou is on its way to the future, but it also remembers its past. Life here is better and more convenient for everyone.
