Announcer: Hi there. Today we'll talk about a survey in an American middle school. Scientists showed half a glass of water to 200 students. Then they asked a question: "Is the glass half full or half empty " The scientists studied the students' answers. Guess what Seventy per cent thought it was half full, and thirty per cent said it was half empty. What does this mean The "glass half-full" people usually look on the bright side of life. The "glass half-empty" people often believe that bad things will happen. So, what about you What kind of person are you

Dr Zheng: Hello, I'm Dr Zheng. Life isn't always easy. Sometimes, we meet problems. What shall we do Let's take Kate and Mike for example. This morning, they both missed their school bus. Let's listen to Kate first.
Kate: I had to run all the way to school. It made me so tired! And I missed the presentation. I felt very unhappy. What a bad day!
Dr Zheng: Now let's listen to Mike.
Mike: I ran all the way to school. It's a great way to exercise! I was late for the music class. I sang a song to say sorry. It was a wonderful morning!
Dr Zheng: Well, Kate is a "glass half-empty" person. And Mike is a "glass half-full" person. So it's important to look on the bright side of life. Let's choose to see the glass as half full.

I think I’m a... person. For example, ... How about you
I’m a... person. Take...

Useful expressions:
What kind of person are you
I’m more of a(n) ... person.
For example, I didn’t do well in a(n)...
At first, I felt..., but then I...
I find that when I..., it helps me stay positive.
I realised that I could see it differently.
A: I think I’m a glass half-full person. For example, when I failed my math quiz last week, I felt upset at first, but then I told myself it was a chance to find out what I didn’t know. How about you
B: I’m a glass half-empty person. Take the school sports day for example. When it rained and we had to cancel the race, I just thought, “Oh no, all our practice was for nothing.”
A: That’s okay! Maybe next time, we can think of indoor games we could play instead. I find that when I plan fun alternatives ahead, it helps me stay positive.
B: Sure, that sounds like a good idea. I realised that I could see it differently instead of just feeling upset.
