Four Cities in the World Where You Can Ride a Cable Car (缆车)
The high-flying mode of transit (运输) has historically been associated with tourism, but some cities use cable cars for more practical purposes.
Medellín, Colombia
The opening of Medellín’s urban cable car transit system in 2004 was a breakthrough moment, as it symbolized a transformation of the travel landscape not only in Latin America, but also around the muting (通勤) to the center could once take more than two and a half hours. On Metrocable, it’s just 15 to 20 minutes and costs less than 70 cents per trip.
La Paz, Bolivia
It costs less than 50 cents for a ride on Mi Teleférico, the cable car that remains an excellent example of how cities can tie the neighborhoods at their centers together more easily. Since opening in 2014, Mi Teleférico has evolved into the world’s most wide-ranging cable car transit system, which features ten color-coded lines forming a rainbow.
Mexico City, Mexico
With the opening of its first Cablebús line in March 2021, Mexico City’s cable car transit system can now send over 100,000 people per day flying over its urban landscape. Costing around 35 cents a ride and having views unmatched anywhere else in the city, the cable cars have also helped to minimize traffic jams in the city centre.
Guayaquil, Ecuador
In order to connect commuters from bank to bank instead of building another bridge, Ecuador’s economic capital, Guayaquil, looked to cable cars in 2021. Its first cable car Aerovía helps cut the 45-minute car trip down to 17 minutes. Around 40,000 passengers ride the cable car line daily, which has five stops between the two cities and costs about 75cents to ride.
1. What is special about Mi Teleférico
A. Its high speed. B. Its large space. C. Its cheap price. D. Its diverse colors.
2. Which city is the earliest to open the urban cable car transit system
A. Medellín. B. La Paz. C. Mexico City. D. Guayaquil.
3. Where is the text most likely taken from
A. A scientific journal. B. A city life magazine.
C. A personal travel blog. D. A historical research paper.

On the second floor of Nairobi’s Panari Hotel, next to a movie theater, is a small ice hockey (冰球) area that serves as the home base for the Kenya Ice Lions, the only ice hockey team in equatorial Africa.
The team began informally in 2016, when a few young Kenyans working as skating instructors grew tired of just watching Westerners play hockey and decided to give it a try themselves. Soon, they began recruiting (招募) players from Nairobi’s rollerskating community and collecting together hockey equipment from secondhand markets.
It wasn’t long before the feel-good story of hockey on the equator started to spread. In 2018, a Chinese company helped to film a television advertisement with a title Ice hockey in Kenya No dream is too big. It raised the team’s publicity (关注度). Later that same year, a Canadian restaurant chain flew the team to Canada for training and equipped the players with full sets. For some of the Kenyans, it was their first time to leave Africa.
The team came home with determination to build up Kenya’s hockey ecosystem and immediate actions were taken. Retired Canadian professor Saroya Tinker was invited by the Ice Lions to help launch a women’s league. And the team set up a Saturday youth club to develop talents for future generations. Currently, as many as 70 kids show up for weekend practices.
The Ice Lions hope to take part in the first ever African Nations Cup next June in Cape Town, South Africa, with the goal of eventually qualifying for the Olympics. “Nothing is impossible,” they think.
4. What can we know about the initial Ice Lions
A. Its equipment was poor. B. Its ice hockey area was large.
C. It consisted of volunteers. D. It was created by Westerners.
5. What did the Chinese company do to help the Ice Lions
A. Flew the team abroad. B. Recruited voluntary players.
C. Filmed an advertisement. D. Provided training and full sets.
6. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4
A. The bright future of hockey in Kenya.
B. The biggest challenge of hockey in Kenya.
C. The setup of women’s hockey team in Kenya.
D. The team’s efforts to develop hockey in Kenya.
7. What does the author think of the hockey team in Kenya
A. Weak but smart. B. Young but promising.
C. Professional but modest. D. Unknown but competitive.
C
Our planet is sending a clear upsetting signal. Recent data confirms that 2025 ranks among the three hottest years ever recorded. In fact, the past three years have been the warmest period in recorded history, showing an increasingly dangerous trend.
The large-scale burning of fossil fuels (化石燃料) for energy, industry, and transport releases massive greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide (CO2), into the atmosphere. These gases act like a thick blanket around the earth, trapping heat. Furthermore, widespread deforestation (砍伐), especially in vital ecosystems like the Amazon rainforest, reduces the planet’s natural ability to absorb this extra carbon dioxide, worsening the problem. These seemingly reasonable actions taken for convenience or short-term gain are, in fact, pushing the earth step by step toward ecological fever.
The impacts are no longer distant threats. They are happening now and being felt worldwide. We see record-breaking heatwaves in the UK and across China — where 16 provinces had their hottest year since 1961. We witness disastrous floods in Pakistan and more frequent wildfires in drying forests. Polar and high-altitude regions like the Arctic and the Tibetan Plateau are warming even faster, threatening sea-level rise and water resources. Coral reefs (珊瑚礁) are dying, and injured ecosystems face collapse.
Faced with such great climate challenges, countries like China are actively monitoring changes and hastening green development. Public support for climate action remains strong in many nations, driving the adoption of electric vehicles and clean technology. Green policies also offer economic benefits, such as creating new jobs and lowering future energy costs.
However broader, faster, and more united global cooperation is urgently needed to turn commitments into real-world results. It should be stressed that securing a livable future is not just a task for world leaders, but a shared responsibility of every global citizen. By making informed and responsible choices, everyone can become part of the solution.
8. Why does deforestation worsen the environmental problem
A. Because it reduces the absorption of CO2.
B. Because it reduces heat in the atmosphere.
C Because it increases the uses of fossil fuels.
D. Because it increases greenhouse gases directly.
9. How is paragraph 3 developed
A. By listing statistics. B. By giving examples.
C. By analyzing reasons. D. By making comparisons.
10 What does the underlined word “hastening” mean
A. Accepting. B. Restricting. C. Delaying. D. Promoting.
11. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text
A. To introduce a new environmental problem.
B. To state the terrible impacts caused by heat.
C. To call for more attention to global warming.
D. To present facts about a recent climate trend.

Around 33 million people in the US have food allergies (过敏反应), including 5.6 million children. Specific proteins in common allergenic foods like milk, eggs, peanuts, fish, and soybeans may cause abnormal immune system (免疫系统) reactions, leading to symptoms (症状) such as skin redness, swelling, difficulty breathing and so on.
Peanuts are among the most allergenic foods, affecting 1% to 2% Americans. Only about 20% children with peanut allergies can grow out of the condition in adulthood. For years, as allergy cases increased, doctors advised parents to avoid exposing babies to common allergens like peanuts. However, a crucial 2015 study opposed this advice, finding that feeding peanut products to babies could cut their allergy risk. Two years later, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases issued national guidelines officially recommending that parents try exposing babies to peanuts.
Recently, a new study confirmed children are less likely to develop food allergies if they are introduced to peanut products as babies. Experts noted that this research provides a promising potential solution for dangerous allergies to common foods. According to the new study, food allergy rates in children under age 3 dropped by 36% between 2017 and 2020. Peanut allergies decreased by 43%, and eggs replaced peanuts as the top food allergen in young children. The study which followed 125,000 children, indicated that about 57,000 fewer children had food allergies as a result of the new approach.
Several other studies have shown that exposing babies to allergenic foods, as their immune systems are developing, helps the body recognize them as safe. The latest national guidelines recommend exposing babies aged 4 to 6 months to common food allergens, for instance, giving a baby a pea-size quantity of peanut butter or a small bite of fried eggs can help familiarize the immune system with the foods.
12. What can we learn about the allergenic foods in paragraph 1
A. They are mainly seafood. B. They cause the same symptoms.
C. They contain certain protein. D. They are hard to get in daily life.
13. What can be found in the 2015 study
A. Food allergy risk can be reduced. B. Eggs are the top food allergen.
C. Solutions for allergies are diverse. D. Peanut products should be avoided.
14. Why do guidelines suggest babies exposing allergenic foods
A. To improve their poor appetite. B. To enhance their immune recognition.
C. To research their allergenic symptoms. D. To avoid their abnormal immune reactions.
15. What is the best title for the passage
A. Dangerous Food Allergies in the US B. Rising Food Allergy Cases in the US
C. Major Breakthroughs in Food Allergies D. Different Opinions on Allergen Exposure

One quiet afternoon, Mia and I wandered away from the familiar path of the park and stepped into a forgotten corner rarely visited by others. Tall grass brushed against our legs, and wildflowers grew freely under the warm sunlight. The place was silent but alive, as if it were waiting to be noticed.
Suddenly, Mia stopped. Her eyes lit up. “Look! Cherries!” I followed her finger and saw it — a single cherry tree, half-hidden among weeds and bushes. Its thin branches stretched outward like slim arms reaching for the sky, yet it looked lonely and weak.
Curious, we moved closer. Only a few cherries hung on its branches, scattered (零散的) and quiet, like shy lanterns refusing to shine too brightly. The ones hanging lower were small and pale red. Mia picked one quickly and took a bite. “Ugh, it’s so sour!” she complained, frowning deeply.
I laughed softly and looked up. “See those ” I said, pointing to the cherries higher above us. “The deep red must be sweet — but they’re out of reach.” After a short silence, Mia clapped her hands. “Let’s call Leo! He’s tall.”
Leo arrived soon, carrying a wooden chair and a large basket. Standing on the chair, he reached up and picked a deep-red cherry, tasting it eagerly. “So sweet!” he shouted excitedly and picked all the deep-red ones. However, when he handed the basket to us, we found they were not even enough for a snack.
Seeing the disappointed expression on our faces, Leo explained, “These are all the good ones. After all, nothing grows well in poor conditions.” His words made us silent. I bent down and touched the weeds and soil. After a moment, I looked up with a smile. “If we want more sweet cherries someday, we should do something now.” Leo and Mia nodded immediately.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
