〇Include a note on the invitation announcing that your party will be plastic free.
〇Fill your reusable bags with party snacks like cookies and candies from the bulk section (where food is sold without packets) of the store.

〇Cut out rounds of colorful paper to use instead of glitter
〇If it's your birthday and you are expecting presents, ask your family and friends for plastic free gifts like homemade cakes, handmade gift cards, or tickets to something you could do together, such as a day at the zoo. AT THE PARTY
◆Serve food on regular plates with metal forks or chopsticks.
◆Offer drinks in washable cups instead of plastic ones.
◆Offer finger food like fruit pieces, small cakes, and sandwiches—no plates necessary!
◆Put fruit into a large bowl of ice cold water for a special drink.
◆Cover tables with old newspapers or unused paper.Let friends draw on it during the party! It's fun and turns rubbish into art.

(2025 年广州中考节选)I was mixing salt with mud (泥) in the
garden.Amy was dancing around like a butterfly.Maybe she could help
prepare food for the butterflies.
“Okay, Amy,” I said.“You can help spread this salt on the mud.”
She took the salt shaker.“Are you growing butterflies like plants,
Simon?”
“Questions again ! ” I shook my head. This little girl had a lot to
learn—just like me at her age, when my family started planting this
butterfly garden.“Some butterflies need salt to stay healthy , ” I
explained.“Once, a butterfly sat right here on my arm, tasting my salty
sweat.”
Why did Simon mix the salt with the mud
A.To play games with Amy.
B.To prepare food for butterflies.
C.To make the plants grow better.
D.To make it safer for Amy to dance.
根 据 “I was mixing salt with mud ( 泥 ) in the garden.Maybe she
could help prepare food for the butterflies.”
泥,再根据“Some butterflies need salt to stay healthy”可知,Simon 混合

As we lay together, Amy noticed a butterfly leaving a flower and cried,
“Simon, it's like a flying flower!”
That made me smile. We swung gently back and forth, happy just to
watch all the flowers—the ones that fly and those that don't—until Mum
called us in to dinner.
Why did Simon feel happy at the end of the story
A.The bread for dinner smelt good.
B.He enjoyed the afternoon with Amy.
C.The hammock was really comfortable.
D.Amy thanked him for the butterfly lesson.
That made me
smile. We swung gently back and forth, happy just to watch all the
flowers—the ones that fly and those that don't—until Mum called us in to
dinner.” Amy

Butterflies don't grow like flowers,”
I said.“They fly wherever they like.”
“Aww…make them come to me,” Amy said.
“They will. They love our garden's plants, with nice leaves and juice,
and this…” I said, pointing to the salty mud.
“I don't like mud , ” Amy said.“See, my new pink shoes are
muddy—and pink's my favourite color!”
I tried to distract her attention.“Do you know butterflies have
favourite colors, too?”
“Pink?” Amy asked, starting to smile again.
What does the underlined phrase “distract her attention” mean in the
story
A.Clean the mud off her shoes.
B.Change her mind about mud.
C.Keep her away from the mud.
D.Get her to forget about the mud.
I don't like mud,”
Amy said.“See, my new pink shoes are muddy—and pink's my favourite
color ! ”“Do you know butterflies have favourite colors, too ? ”
“Pink ? ” Amy asked, starting to smile again.
Amy

I will not make friends with a dishonest person.
A.not honest
B.not true
C.not lovely
D.not friendly

Overweight is bad for your health.
A.Too much
B.Too fat
C.Too small
D.Too noisy
看到 be considered as, refer to, and, or, also 等常连接同义词组的标

Doctors believe that smoking cigarettes is detrimental to your
health. They also regard drinking as harmful.
看到 because, as, since, for, so, as a result, so…that, such…that 等表

All his attempts(尝试) to unlock the door were futile, because he
was using the wrong key.
看到 but, while, however, instead of, rather than, unlike, yet, though

Although the early morning had been very cool, the noonday sun
was tropical.
看到 such as, like, for example 等表示举例的标志词时,可以根据后

Today young couples who are just starting their households often
spend lots of money on appliances such as washing machines, refrigerators
and colour televisions.

The Greek marriage was monogamous—men and women were
allowed only one spouse(配偶) at a time.
看到 that is to say, in other words, mean, be considered, refer to, be
known as, define, namely, be called

Endangered means that without human help an animal or a plant
will become extinct, which means that the animal or plant will never again
stay alive…
A.dead
B.dangerous
C.bright
D.natural
【方法点拨】“which means that…”

finally cuts out the paper creation.“The unexpected pattern is the most
interesting part, and I think being natural is beautiful , ” he says. The
creative way is usually slow.It usually takes Ye at least two weeks to
complete a paper-cutting work.
His hard work made him well-known around the world and UNESCO
listed Zhangpu paper-cutting as intangible cultural heritage in 2009.“I

Though oceans cover about 71% of the earth's surface, there's still a
lot we don't know about them.Only about 20% of the seafloor has been
mapped, and the remaining 80% is still a secret to us.Some scientists even
think that 91% of sea animals have yet to be discovered.
So why do we know so little about the deep sea Well, getting to those
depths is very difficult and requires high technology that simply didn't
come into being for most of human history. The first navigable submarine
(可驾驶的潜水艇), for example, was built in 1620, and it couldn't go more
than five meters below the surface. In fact, for a long time, many scientists
didn't even think that there could be any life at depths greater than 550
meters and didn't see much need to explore the deep sea. However, this
changed in 1862 when life was discovered as far down as 945 meters
below sea level with the help of a digging machine.Ten years later, around
4,700 species unknown before from the ocean floor were discovered.
Since then, high technology has been developed to help explore the
deep sea, including satellites. But why is deep-sea exploration still so
difficult Well, at greater depths it is freezing.Everything is completely
dark, and the pressure is much greater than that on the surface.
Though we have the difficulties, it's important that we understand the
seas. They help control the earth's temperature and produce half of the
oxygen (O2) in the air. They can also provide us with information about
climate change. Our future depends on learning more about our oceans, and
it is possible for us to really understand what is ongoing below the surface.

We are getting used to having robots in our homes, stores, and
factories. What about on stage In fact, the word robot comes from a 1920
science-fiction play.In Rossum's Universal Robots, people performed as the
machine-like creatures.Recently, some directors and artists have invited
actual robots to share the stage in dances and other performances.Catie
Cuan is one of them.“Robots are for everyone,” she says.
Cuan began her career as a dancer and choreographer—a person who
maps out the movements of dancers. But she fell in love with robots and
has pioneered a new field called robot choreography.Today, she's studying
robotics at Stanford University in Northern California.
You might imagine robots would dance like machines. After all, that's
how the popular dance “the robot” looks. Most robots today, however, can
move in a more life-like manner. It takes time and effort to program robots
to do the movements Cuan wants. But the results, she says, “will surprise
you.”
At first, Cuan knew little about robot choreography. In 2022, she wrote,
choreographed and performed the stage show In Her Prime. She danced
with two other women and two Boston Dynamics spot robots. In the dance,
the robots stayed behind a screen so the audience only saw their shadows.
Cuan says that cave paintings inspired her.
In the media, Cuan says, “Robots are often described negatively.”
They may seem alien, cold, or scary.Seeing a robot dance may make the
technology seem fun, attractive, or friendly instead.Sometimes after her
performances, the audience tell her that the dance changes the way they
think about robots.
Robots may seem like they're all about maths and engineering. But, as
Cuan suggests, they belong in art, too.“We as humans have been making
art a lot longer than we've been doing maths ,” she says. She points out
that we use art and dance to make sense of the world.Cuan thinks that
performances like hers will help people feel more at home with robots.“We
need to dance with robots to make sense of them.” she says.
(

Why” “robot” “needs a
And if it is going to communicate with people, it will also need a
face.”

550,000 wild animals are exposed (暴露) to ill treatment around the world.
In Cambodia, for example, it's been reported that elephants have died after
carrying tourists for long in hot weather. This is getting attention—over 100
travel companies have promised that they will no longer open up such places.

In many countries, parents must make sure their children are in full-
time education suitable to their needs.
Many do this by sending their children to school. The National Health
Service (NHS) in the UK says it is fine for children to go into class with a
cough or cold, but if they have a sore throat and a high temperature, they
should stay off school.
Should students go to school if they are sick Here are the comments
from both sides.
★It is believed that face to face education is the best for young people to develop their skills.
Yes No
Coughs and colds are part of life; children
can't stay at home every time they feel poorly or
are under the weather!
The NHS gives advice on when it's safe to
go to school and says it can be OK for children to
go to school with sore throats, running noses or
earaches.
If you try to keep doing your best when you
are sick, you will feel much more confident about
yourself.Besides, it helps children develop a
healthy and strong immune system Coughs and colds might not be that
serious but it's not nice battling your way
to school when you feel unwell.
It's hard to concentrate and learn
when you're ill.Besides, coughing and
blowing your nose all the time disturbs the
rest of the class and teachers.
If you are at school, you mix with
others in classrooms and the lunchroom.
You could easily spread the infection ( 传
染病) and make others ill, which is not fair
on them.
What do you think Will you go to school if you're sick Give reasons
to support your opinions.

Most of us cannot imagine modern life without social media (社交媒
体).We use it almost every day in order to keep up with what is happening
in our friends' lives, or find out the latest information.Although it has a bad
influence if we don't use it properly, social media has done more good than
harm.
The greatest advantage is that we can connect with people much more
easily. We are still able to keep in touch with our friends if they are far
away. With social media, friendship goes beyond geography. We are able to
find friends old and new. Also, it makes it easier for us to make friends,
especially for those who are afraid of making friends face to face. Are you
shy If yes, social media has probably helped.
Social media is also ideal for making yourself heard.Anyone with a
voice can express it.Anyone with a talent is free to show it.Everyone is the
new content creator. Moreover, anyone with a smartphone and the Internet
can be a reporter. As a result, it has become much faster to cover the news
than ever before.
Social media, on the other hand, can make us less confident
sometimes.A 2021 study published by the Public Library of Science, found
that the more a person uses social media, the sadder he feels about his own
life. One reason for this is that people around us put colourful information
and perfect pictures online in order to show off their best moment. So we
often get a distorted sense of how wonderful their lives are compared to
our own.
Social media does not cause sadness; it simply provides another tool
for us to use.Is it good or bad Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai
says, “What is interesting is the power and influence of social media…
We must try to use social media in a good way.” After all, you decide how
you use this powerful tool.

People are talking a lot about artificial intelligence (AI), viewing it as
a force that could reshape how society works. But there is something
important missing from this discussion. It isn't enough to ask how it will
change us.We also need to understand how we shape AI and what it can tell
us about ourselves.
Every AI model we develop mirrors our rules and expresses our
beliefs.A few years ago, while looking for new workers, a famous
company gave up an AI-powered tool after finding it unfavourable to
women. The AI was not designed to behave this way, instead, it was
influenced by the historical data ( 数据) favouring men.Similarly, a recent
study found that lending algorithms ( 算 法 ) often offer less favourable
terms to coloured people, worsening long-standing unfairness in money-
lending business. In both cases, AI isn't creating new biases ( 偏 见 ), it is
mirroring the ones that are already present.
These reflections ( 反映) give us an important chance to take a close
look at ourselves.By making these problems seen and more pressing, AI
challenges us to recognize and address what causes algorithmic bias.As AI
continues to develop, we must ask ourselves how we as average people
want to shape its role in society. We should not only improve AI models,
but also make sure that AI is developed and used responsibly.
A number of companies are already taking action. They are judging
the data, rules, and beliefs that shape the behaviour of AI models.Still, we
cannot expect the companies to do all the work.As long as AI is trained on
human data, it will reflect human behaviour. That means we have to think
carefully about the footprints of ourselves we leave in the world.I may
value privacy, but if I give it up in a heartbeat to visit a website, the
algorithms may make a very different judgment of what I really want and
what is good for me.If I want meaningful human connections yet spend
more time on social media and less time in the physical company of my
friends, I am indirectly training AI models about the true nature of
humanity.
As AI becomes more powerful, we need to take increasing care to
read our principles (原则) into the record of our actions rather than allowing
the two to diverge.Recognizing this allows us to make better decisions, but
only when we are prepared to look closely and take responsibility for what
we see.
