Jenna had a wonderful volunteer experience in teaching English to the children of Samara, Costa Rica. Samara was an island of love and happiness. It was impossible to see the anger or worry through people’s eyes and looks. The children at school were very easy to be happy. A smile could light them up.
Jenna’s first week started with an English Sports Camp. Each morning she gave them a lesson. The teaching was difficult because some children were poor in their own language. After lunch, she took them to play and taught them new games and sports. She worked from 8: 30 a.m. to about 4 p.m. She felt the camp was a success because the children always came back with smiles and eagerness (渴望) to learn.
The second week gave Jenna more time to experience the culture there. She taught children every morning and adults at night. The beach was an important part of its culture, so almost every day she went to the beach and surfed there. She also took a 6 -hour journey on a horse to a 50- feet tall waterfall sometimes.
