For some of us who long to travel, it can be difficult to find someone to journey with. Friends and family members are tied down in jobs, struggling to save money, and don’t always want to go to the same places. The solution, of course, is to go it alone.
Melbourne, Australia
Melbourne is a hot-spot travel destination, which has beautiful beaches as well as busy and lively city life. Australia as a whole is considered a safe destination for international travel, and because of that, many solo travellers go there. Melbourne is incredibly easy to get around because you can walk or bike practically anywhere!
Thailand
Thailand is great for solo travellers — perhaps because it is one of the Buddhist mentalities, which promote equality among the sexes. Thailand is known for its friendly hospitality, and as a travel hot-spot, there are plenty of chances to meet other like-minded travellers. Overall known for being very cheap, especially in the north, it’s a good choice if you want to get away on a budget.
Bhutan
Bhutan is one of the most multi-cultural countries in the world. There is the world’s highest unclimbed peak, Gangkhar Puensum, located on the border between China and Bhutan. The mountain is sacred and entry is only possible on a pre-booked tour, where you are accompanied around by your own personal guide. Plastic bags have been banned in Bhutan since 1999 and in 2004, it became the first country in the world to outlaw tobacco.
Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a great place if you’re looking for adventure, with surfing, volcanoes and other recreational activities. You’ll never get a chance to feel lonely because there’s an abundance of exciting adventures to experience! Costa Rica has never seen political unrest, class struggles or revolutions commonly associated with other Latin American countries. What’s more, it doesn’t have or need an army because it’s such a peaceful country.
21. Which place is suitable for travellers short of money
A. Melbourne, Australia. B. Bhutan. C. Costa Rica. D. Thailand.
22. What can we learn about travelling in Bhutan
A. Smoking is allowed at the foot of the mountain. B. You can prepare some plastic bags for your rubbish.
C. You can experience the rich culture there. D. You can climb the mountain without booking ahead.
23. Where does this text probably come from
A. A travel brochure. B. A historical document. C. A book review. D. A science magazine.

In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift. On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its splendour (壮观). Rushing home, I popped the exposed film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it came out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when I processed the film I got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing.
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought a new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me.
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I’ve taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.
24. What was the main purpose of the author using the camera in his youth
A. To develop professional skills. B. To capture the beauty of nature.
C. To document his school life. D. To participate in photography competitions.
25. How did the author’s feelings towards the camera change as he grew up
A. His interest in photography deepened. B. He felt the camera was just a burden.
C. He gradually forgot about the camera. D. He longed to purchase more advanced equipment.
26. How has the author’s life been since he reused the camera
A. Plain. B. Delightful. C. Desperate. D. Dull.
27. Why does the author display camera equipment and photos in his room
A. To remind him of his happy time. B. To bring happiness to his family.
C. To show off his achievement. D. To record his prizes in younger years.

There is an unforgettable beauty to the Karoo, a vast semi-desert, that seems empty save for the stars overhead and sheep eating grass below. Economic opportunities here are few.
But the Karoo’s clear skies also draw some of the world's best scientists. A radio telescope project called the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is under construction, with the latest group of 64 giant antennae(天线)due to be completed late next year. When finished, it will be the biggest radio telescope in the world and should allow scientists to peer into the origins of the universe.
Still, some sheep farmers are complaining. Because of the sensitivity of the telescope, the surrounding area must be kept free from radio interference(干扰)caused by everything from mobile phones to microwave ovens and some car engines. The SKA is buying up more farms than originally expected to ensure radio silence over an area of some 130,000 hectares. There will be no mobile phone signals allowed, except in the few towns in the area. Save the Karoo, an advocacy group, isn’t convinced by the bright future of groundbreaking astronomical discoveries. Its members fear the restrictions will make the Karoo “a cut-off and backward region”, and warn that people serving farms near the SKA site could face financial ruin. “I don't care about a black hole siting somewhere out in space,” says Eric Torr, an organiser with the group. “It does not put food on the table.”
Sky-high expectations in this down-at-heel area are also a problem. An SKA official complains that the locals expect the telescope to solve all their problems. Some jobs have been created, but few locals have the skills to find out the secrets of distant galaxies. Until recently the high school in Carnarvon, a nearby town, didn’t even have a maths and science teacher. The SKA organisation hired one, and is also offering scholarship to college students. Perhaps if the next generation's horizons are raised, they will be able to take advantage of the radio telescopes in their own backyard.
28. The project SKA is aimed at ______.
A. creating jobs for locals B. exploring the universe
C. protecting the sheep D. saving the Karoo
29. What most disturbs the locals’ life
A. The shrinking of their farmlands. B. Restrictions of radio signals.
C. The construction of the project. D. Noises of car engines.
30. What can be inferred from Eric’s words
A Food should be put on the table. B. Eric faces financial difficulty.
C. The black hole is nowhere to be found. D. The project makes no sense to Eric.
31 What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Telescope in the Backyard B. Expectations of the Locals
C. Biggest Radio Telescope D. Great Astronomical Discovery
D
Artificial intelligence has persuaded a lot of folks that we need to undertake a comprehensive reform of education. Now that chatbots can speedily access information and answer complex questions, why bother memorizing historical facts or quotations Shouldn’t we instead teach kids to think critically and solve problems and leave the boring duties to computers
There’s a problem with these arguments: humans require knowledge to think creatively. Outsourcing our memory and cognition (认知) to Google and AI risks making us less intelligent and more subject to false information.
In 2000. American educator E.D. Hirsch noted in his essay: The internet places information at our fingertips, but using it demands existing knowledge’ stores. This principle drove the UK’s 2014 curriculum reform empowering multiplication table mastery (乘法口诀表) by age nine — not merely for calculation skills. but to build the neural frameworks (神经框架) enabling complex reasoning. As former schools minister Nick Gibb stressed: “Google it’s effectively depends on what’s stored in long-term memory.”
“The suggestion we should outsource our memory to “free up” limited space for more creative thinking is based on a misconception — we’re likely to overestimate our intelligence, mistaking knowledge found on the internet for our own,” writes Nicholas Carr in The Shallows. “When we start using the Web as a replacement for personal memory, bypassing the inner processes of consolidation (巩固), we risk emptying our minds of their riches.”
Indeed, looking stuff up on Google often results in us not being able to recall it later — either because our brains are conditioned to think we don’t need to remember it, or because the internet, mobile phones and social media distract our attention, or both. If students come to rely on machines not just to recall facts but to think for them, it might not just be memory that suffers: cognition and creativity could atrophy, too.
The solution lies not in rejecting technology, but in rebalancing its role. The UK’s knowledge-rich curriculum, despite disagreements, recognizes this truth: human intelligence advances when technology adds to rather than replaces learning.
32. What is the author’s concern about AI’s influence on education
A. Students avoid complex questions.
B. Teachers prioritize memorizing facts.
C. Students develop poor analysis and judgment.
D. Teachers ignore students' creativity.
33. What do experts consistently emphasize
A. The necessity for technology improvement.
B. The importance of knowledge storage.
C. The reduction of internet usage.
D. The replacement of complex reasoning.
34. What does the underlined word “atrophy” in paragraph 5 mean
A. Decline. B. Disappear. C. Strengthen. D. Stabilize.
35. Which of the following may the author agree
A. Limit AI to education. B. Avoid referring to AI in study.
C. Search online for solutions beforehand. D. Use technology as an assistant.

I sat at the breakfast table with my four-year-old son, Harry, trying to ignore the ache in my stomach. “Mama, want to play ” “Not today, baby.” I shook my head. These days I could barely get out of bed. I was still recovering from an operation. I hoped for strength and happiness, but the future seemed so hopeless.
Suddenly, Harry jumped up from his spot on the kitchen floor. “Bird!” he shouted, rushing to our courtyard. Sure enough, there was a white dove (鸽子) seated in a rubber tree. It sat there for a few moments, and then flew away. Strange, I’d never seen one in our neighborhood before.
When I dragged myself to the kitchen the next morning, the dove was back. This time it was with a mate carrying sticks. “Look, Harry,” I said, pointing to the tree. “They’re going to make a nest.” The doves flew in and out of the courtyard all week, building on top of the rubber tree.
Harry could hardly contain his excitement. Every morning, he’d run into the kitchen and take his spot by the sliding glass door, talking to the birds while they worked. His happiness was influential. As much as I was sad, I couldn’t help but look forward to the doves’ visits too.
Then it all went wrong. The courtyard was safe enough for a nest, but the rubber tree’s thin leaves were far from stable. One night, a strong wind blew, throwing the doves’ nest to the ground. I heard the twigs (细枝) break apart.
I surveyed the damage. Nothing good ever lasted. I wouldn’t blame the doves if they never came back. But they returned. And they paid no attention to the pile of sticks that had once been their nest. They started again from the beginning. Again, though, the wind destroyed all their hard work. The next day, and the next, they started again, as if nothing had happened.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Moved by their perseverance, I decided to build a new nest for the doves.
