Activity 1: Lead-in
Look at the picture in the text of “Gulliver in Lilliput”, think about the following questions.
What catches your eyes most in the picture
Who is the huge man
What happened to him
Who do you think is more powerful, Gulliver or those tiny men And what will happen between them
Activity 2: Read the whole story
Scan the passage “Gulliver in Lilliput” quickly and find three elements: “who”, “when” and “where”.
Put the sentences below in the correct order. Write the numbers 1-5 in the boxes.
a. Gulliver pulled one hand free and thought about running away.
b. Gulliver swam to land.
d. Gulliver woke up and found that he was tied to the ground.

Look! This is “crash”. It means “hit and break”.
How about “be tired out” Can you find the sentence to show he was tired out
His ship crashed against the rocks, so he swam as far as he could to reach the land and survive.
No, it wasn’t easy. The text says “by the time I finally felt the land under my feet, I was tired out”, which shows he used up a lot of energy during the swim.
Because his arms, legs and hair were tied to the ground by the tiny people of Lilliput.

He felt surprised and annoyed when the tiny men climbed all over his body, so he shouted to scare them away and defend himself.
No, they were not afraid. The text says “they soon got up again and continued moving across my body”, which shows they were not frightened and kept moving on him despite the loud shout.

I was really afraid. “I must get away!” I told myself. I stood up and ran along the beach towards a forest as fast as I could. A (1) of tiny men followed me. They were shouting and
