provide places for homeless people to stay.
Amy: What about people with disabilities Do they get help too
Daniel: Of course. Most governments provide different kinds of services for the disabled
to help them live a full life.
Amy: That’s good to know.
Daniel: Many businesses also help people in need. They usually do so by donating money.
Activity 4: Make a dialogue
Last month, I met an elderly blind man on my way to school. He wanted to cross the busy street but looked worried and scared. I walked up to him, held his arm gently, and told him about the cars and traffic lights around us. I helped him cross the street safely and walked him to the nearby bus stop. He thanked me with a warm smile, and I felt so happy and proud. Helping people in need isn’t hard—small kind acts can make a big difference to their lives. I hope you all can try to help others around you too!
Activity 5: Think and report
Our local government and communities come up with many ways to help people in need. So try your best to work as volunteers to make our country a better place to live.
Work in groups and talk about the things our local government and communities do for people in need and share your own experience.
Our group had a warm discussion about what our local government and communities do for people in need. The government provides free shelters for homeless people and builds wheelchair ramps for the munities often give food, clothes and daily necessities to poor families, and help elderly people clean their homes or buy groceries. We also shared some advice. We suggest organizing more volunteer activities, such as reading stories for blind kids and teaching the elderly to use smartphones. We can also donate our old books and stationery to poor students. Small kind acts can really help those in need!
Activity 6: A volunteering project
We have a volunteering project at the old people’s home. Now we need some volunteers to do something for them. Look at the table. Please share your ideas with us.
