Last spring, our school organized a tree-planting event at a nearby barren hill. To be honest, when I first
signed up, I thought it would just be a simple, fun day out. I imagined us digging a small hole, dropping a seedling
in, and we’d be done. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
The reality was much tougher. The sun was beating down, and the soil was hard and rocky. My hands were
sore from digging, and sweat poured down my face. For a moment, I felt like giving up. The task seemed daunting.
But then I looked around. Everyone was working just as hard. My classmates were encouraging each other, sharing
water, and working in teams to break through the tough ground. Our teacher, Mr. Li, whose shirt was wet with
sweat, was right there with us, showing us the proper way to plant the seedlings to ensure they would survive.
We worked for hours, and by the end of the day, we had planted over two hundred saplings (树苗). Looking at
the rows of tiny trees standing proudly on the once-empty hillside, I felt a sense of accomplishment I had never
experienced before. It was a feeling far greater than winning a video game or getting a high score in a test.
That day, I learned that making a real difference requires effort and teamwork. It’s not about one grand action,
but about many small, consistent efforts. We were more than just planting a tree; we planted hope for a greener
future. And more importantly, the experience planted a seed of responsibility in my own heart. I understood that we
are all caretakers of our planet, and every small act counts.
4. What did the author think of the tree-planting event at first
A. He felt it was a waste of time.
B. He was excited about the task.
C. He thought the task would be easy.
D. He was worried about the hot weather.
5. What does the underlined word “daunting” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Discouraging. B. Rewarding. C. Amusing. D. Interesting.
6. What did the author gain from the tree-planting experience
A Skills in teamwork and leadership.
B. An appreciation for the beauty of nature.
C. The chance to win an award from the school.
D. A sense of responsibility and accomplishment.
7. What message does the author mainly want to convey
A. Teamwork can make any difficult task easier.
B. Planting trees is important for the environment.
C. Challenges can be overcome through effort and teamwork.
D. Outdoor activities are more valuable than classroom learning.
C
When technology quickly changes our world, we might ask: Are our old cultural traditions disappearing, or
are they being reborn In China, an interesting mix of old and new shows that technology is not fighting tradition.
Instead, it is a strong tool to help bring traditions back to life and pass them on to young people.
Take the Spring Festival, China’s most important holiday, as an example. The old custom of giving red
envelopes with money inside has changed. Now, many millions of people use apps to send and get digital red
envelopes. This change to digital form has not reduced the tradition’s meaning of bringing good luck and wishes. In
fact, it has made the custom more fun and convenient. This is especially engaging for young people who often live
without using much cash.
Traditional performing arts are also joining this digital trend. For example, Chinese opera, a valuable cultural
art, is now using modern stage effects. Shows might use better sound and lights, or even drones to create amazing
scenes that were not possible before. This attracts people who once thought opera was hard to understand or
old-fashioned. At a recent show, AI robot dogs performed a traditional dance together perfectly. The performance
surprised the audience and showed a wonderful mix of old culture and new technology.
Even the important value of family reunion is helped by modern technology. China’s large high-speed rail
network makes trips home for the holidays much quicker and easier. For family members who cannot travel, video
calls and social media become places for online gatherings. They allow families separated by long distances to
share happy festival moments together.
In the end, technology is creating new containers for our old cultural traditions. It makes sure that the true
spirit of these traditions — like community, good wishes, and family love — does not just continue, but grows
stronger in the modern world. It connects the past and the present in active and exciting ways.
8. What can we know about digital red envelopes
A. They are widely accepted by elderly people. B. They have made the custom easier and funnier.
C. They have made the custom less meaningful. D. They are less safe than traditional paper envelopes.
9. What do the examples in paragraph 3 indicate
A. High-tech effects are now part of traditions. B. Chinese opera is losing its importance today.
C. Traditional arts depend on high-tech to survive. D. Technology makes traditional arts more attractive.
10. What is the author’s attitude towards the mix of technology and tradition
A. Worried. B. Objective. C. Positive. D. Doubtful.
11. What is the main idea of the text
A Young people are ignoring old traditions. B. Technology is helping keep traditions alive.
C. Technology is replacing traditional customs. D. Technology is changing the meaning of traditions.
D
A Japanese city is using AI (人工智能) to help with the problem of kids not wanting to go to school. They
look at students’ information to see who might stop coming because of worries, being bullied (欺凌), or other
problems.
In a city near Tokyo, they tested an AI system for a year. They wanted to help teachers find students who are
having a hard time. In Japan, more and more kids are not going to school for a long time. In 2022, almost 300,000
kids didn’t go to school for 30 days or more.
The AI system looks at things like how often kids go to school, how well they do in school, and if they are
healthy. It also looks at if they visit the school nurse a lot or if there are reports about them being bullied.
The system then uses past data (数据) to see how likely it is that a student will stop going to school. It gives
each student a color, from red (highest risk) to yellow (lowest risk).
In the test, the program said 1,193 students were at high risk. Teachers decided that 265 of them needed help
right away.
To keep kids’ information safe, the city made rules about how to use the data and not to treat students unfairly
because of the AI’s predictions (预测). They also told parents they could say no to using their kids’ data. Only
important people in the school, like headmasters, could see the results.
“By using real information, we might be able to stop kids from not wanting to go to school,” said Makiko
Nakamuro, a professor from Keio University and an expert on education. “But we have to think really hard about
keeping their data safe by telling them clearly why and how we use their information,” she also said.
12. What is the main purpose of using AI in the Japanese city
A. To improve students’ scores.
B. To study students’ health conditions.
C. To make bullying problems happen less in schools.
D. To find students at risk of not attending school.
13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The job of school nurses. B. How the AI system checks kids’ health.
C. The main focus of the AI system. D. Why students need better education.
14. How did the city protect students’ information
A. Make strict rules about data using. B. Hide all the data after testing.
C. Give up using their real information. D. Send the result only to their parents.
15. What is the best title of this passage
A. Japanese City Uses AI to detect Students at Risk of skipping School.
B. Japanese City Uses AI to Help Find Students Who are Bullied.
C. Japanese City managed Students Well Thanks to AI’s Predictions
D. AI is widely Used in Japanese Schools to Solve Education Problems.

How to Study Effectively
Learning how to study effectively is a skill that will help you throughout your high school years and beyond.
Here are some tips to help you make the most of your study time.
___16___. Find a quiet, well-lit place where you won’t be disturbed. It could be a desk in your room, a corner
of the library, or a quiet café. Make sure all the materials you need — books, notebooks, pens, and a calculator —
are within reach so you don’t have to get up and break your concentration.
Once you have your space, plan your study sessions. ___17___. Instead of planning a four-hour marathon,
break your work into manageable sessions of 30 — 50 minutes, with short 10-minute breaks in between. This
technique, often called the Pomodoro Technique, can help you maintain focus.
Active learning is much more effective than passive reading. Simply reading your notes is not enough. You
need to actively engage with the material. Try to explain a concept in your own words as if you were teaching it to
someone else. Create flashcards for key terms or dates. Draw diagrams or mind maps to connect ideas visually.
___18___.
Another powerful method is to practice remembering information. ___19___. Testing yourself forces your
brain to recall the information, strengthening the neural pathways. You can use practice questions from your
textbook, create your own quizzes, or ask a friend to test you.
Finally, don’t forget the importance of sleep. ___20___. When you sleep, your brain processes and
consolidates the information you’ve learned during the day. Pulling an all-nighter might seem like a good idea, but
it will likely leave you tired and less able to remember what you studied.
By following these strategies, you can study smarter, not just harder, and achieve better results.
A. Set a specific goal for each session
B. This means testing yourself on the material
C. While you study, it’s helpful to listen to music
D. It is important to create a concentrated study space
E. Getting enough sleep is vital to strengthen your memory
F. Therefore, you should always study with your classmates
G. This process helps move information from your short-term to your long-term memory

In our childhood, there were always unforgettable things happening in our life, however, some were harmful
while some were beneficial, If we could learn from the experience and lessons, it would lead to future success.
My 12th birthday came at last. What a wonderful feeling it was to know that I turned twelve and that I might
possibly get the thing I wanted most.
I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box wrapped up (包装) with nice pink paper with
flowers on it. When I removed the paper and opened the box, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had got a cell phone I
ran to give my mom and dad the biggest hug ever, and said,
“You’ re welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy. But we give you this not only because you
have turned twelve but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades.”
I said confidently that I would. As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and
asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts (联系人) on the first day. It felt like I
didn’t even exist in that class any more. I didn’t pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my
phone. I texted my friends, surfed the Internet for stories or played games.
Luckily, I didn’t get caught using it. I had formed a habit of secretly enjoying my phone in class. But I was
pretty sure that the teachers did notice that I stopped paying attention to them, because a week later we took a test
and I failed. What’s worse, my parents had to sign the test.

____________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 After getting home, I was afraid to face my parents but I had to. After looking through the test
result, I had thought that they would scold me heavily. However, I was completely wrong. They asked me about the
reason for which I failed the test. I didn’t dare to tell a lie, and told them it was the phone they had bought for me
that led to my poor scores. When figuring out the cause, they said, “We truly believe in you. We hope you can learn
from this failure, change your old ways, and really strive to be a better student. Success will be yours.”
After what happened, I decided to change everything I used to do. Firstly, I handed in my phone to my
parents and came home early right after school every day. Once I finished my homework, I’d help my parents with
some housework. I hardly used my phone any more. Then in class, I’d listen carefully as before. Gradually, my
school performance improved and I got good grades again.
