What were you doing while it was snowing heavily
What were your family doing when the typhoon hit
When my neighbour called, my family were having dinner.
While we were driving home, the strong winds started.
It was raining hard while we were driving back.
例如:then, at this/that time, yesterday, last night。
E.g. I was playing volleyball with my friends yesterday
afternoon.
I was doing my homework while my sister was watching TV last night.
E.g. We didn’t go shopping as it was raining heavily.
It was a very cold night and a terrible wind was blowing.
E.g. I was sleeping when the doorbell rang.
When I was reading English words, my mother came in.
E.g. He fell asleep while he was watching TV.
The fire alarm went off while we were having a meeting.
E.g. We were playing basketball while it was raining.
I was reading while she was writing.
主语+be (was/were)+现在分词+其他
E.g. She was playing the piano when the bell rang.
When I came home, they were cooking in the kitchen.
否定句
主语+be(was/were)+not+现在分词+其他
E.g. He wasn’t reading when I came home.
When he knocked at the door, we weren’t doing our homework.
Be (Was/Were)+主语+现在分词+其他
E.g. A: Were you cooking at that time
A: Was he singing then
B: Yes, he was. / No, he wasn’t.
B: Yes, I was. / No, I wasn’t.
疑问词+be (was/were)+主语+现在分词+其他
E.g. A: What was he doing when I called you
B: He was studying at the library.
A: What were you doing when the teacher came in
B: We were discussing the homework.
E.g. The children watched TV yesterday night.(只说明昨晚孩子们看过电视,但看了多长时间并不知道。)
The children were watching TV yesterday evening.(不仅陈述昨晚孩子们看电视这一事实,更强调他们看电视的时间贯穿昨晚整个时间段。)
