海明威本人曾在古巴生活多年,对古巴渔民的生活非常熟悉,所以故事的主人公设定为一个古巴老渔夫。
Santiago was an old fisherman. He hadn’t caught any fish for 84 days. Everyone thought he was unlucky but he didn’t give up.
One day, he hooked a giant Marlin fish far out at sea. The fish was so powerful that it pulled his small boat farther and farther to the open sea.
For two days and night, the old man fought the fish with all his strength, even though he was tired, hungry and in pain.
Finally, the old man defeated the Marlin and tied it to his boat. But his battle wasn’t over. On his way home, sharks were attracted by the blood of the fish. They attacked and ate the entire fish.
When the old man finally returned to the shore, all he had left was a giant skeleton.

My favorite book is Journey to the West. It was written by Wu Cheng'en in the 16th century and is one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels.
It has been widely loved by people for centuries and has been adapted into many TV series, movies and cartoons. So, it’s very popular among both children and adults.

The story is about Monk Tang Sanzang and his three disciples—Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing—who travel west to get Buddhist scriptures. They face 81 difficulties. Even though the journey is full of challenges, they always help each other and never give up.
This book teaches me to be persistent and care about teamwork. They never stop even when things are hard. I’ve read it many times and still enjoy it. If you want an exciting and meaningful story, I recommend Journey to the West.
