【拓】还可意为“消失；消逝”。

其后通常接形容词、名词作表语。

(1)用来连接两个相同的句子成分，该结构中的 also可省略。
当not only位于句首时，其后的部分要用倒装语序。
not only... but also... 不但……而且……

Not only did I help the old lady get on the escalator, but also helped her overcome her fear. 我不仅帮助那位老太太上了自动扶梯，还帮助她克服了恐惧。
(2)not only... but also... 连接两个并列成分作主语时，谓语动词与其邻近的主语在人称和数上保持一致，即遵循“就近原则”。
Today, not only he himself, but also his brothers and sisters are leading happy lives. 如今，不仅他自己，他的弟弟妹妹也过着幸福的生活。
