Writing an article about a person you like
The school website is calling for articles on the topic “a person I like”:
Which person would you write about,
and what are you going to write about him/her
1 Wang Yao organized her ideas by asking herself some questions about the topic. Look at the questions and read her article.

My nice neighbour Yao Yuan
Yao Yuan is my neighbour and schoolmate. He is kind and hard-working.
Yao Yuan is very active in our community. At the weekend, he often helps out at a local retirement home. He teaches retired people to use computers and smartphones. He says, “I'm always happy to help!”
Yao Yuan also uses his time wisely. Every day. he gets up at six and exercises for half an hour before breakfast. Then he listens to English programmes on the way to school. He won the school English speaking competition last year.
Yao Yuan is an amazing person, and I wish I could be like him!

3 Now describe the person you like.
Step 1 Plan Think about what to write about in your article. You
may use the questions in Exercise 1 as a guide.
Step 2 Write Write your article. Try to give it an eye-catching
title. Find a photo of the person you are writing about
and add it to the article.
My English Teacher
My English teacher is Miss Liu. She is really kind and always wears a big smile on her face.
In class, Miss Liu makes learning fun. She uses lots of pictures and videos to teach us new words and sentences. We often play games and do group work. It is never boring. After class, she talks to us in English. She helps us with our homework and gives us good advice. She always says, “Practice makes perfect.”
Miss Liu is also hard - working. Every day, she comes to school early. She spends a long time preparing interesting lessons for us. She reads many English books and watches English movies to make her classes better.
Miss Liu is a wonderful teacher. I like her very much and I want to be as good as her someday.

My mother works really hard at the hospital. Every day, she gets up early to go to work. She helps many sick people. She listens to their problems carefully and gives them the best treatment. Even after a long day at work, she never looks tired. She always says, “Helping patients makes me happy.”
At home, my mother is also a great cook. She makes delicious meals for our family every day. After dinner, she spends time with me, helping me with my homework and talking about my school life.
My mother is not only a good doctor but also a wonderful mother. I am so proud of her and I love her more than anything in the world. I hope I can be as kind and helpful as her when I grow up.
